The popular navigation app Waze has deployed a new feature to aid electric vehicle (EV) drivers in finding compatible charging stations. This addition enables Waze users to easily identify compatible charging outlets when plotting their route.
The feature, which is currently available in the United States and Canada, allows EV drivers to view available charging options on the app’s map. Compatible charging stations are marked with an EV symbol and can be filtered according to charging level, such as Level 2 or Level 3.
Drivers can also access detailed information regarding a charging station’s availability and pricing. This information is provided by ChargePoint and EVgo, two of the largest public EV charging networks in North America.
The ability to view compatible charging stations on Waze is a welcome addition for EV drivers, as it provides a convenient way to locate outlets while on the road.
Moreover, the feature is expected to reduce the amount of time drivers spend searching for compatible charging stations. This could ultimately lead to fewer cases of range anxiety, a fear of running out of battery power on the road.
“Waze has been a go-to navigation app for drivers, providing real-time traffic updates and other useful information to help save time and money,” said ChargePoint CEO Pasquale Romano. “Adding EV charging station information to the Waze map is another way to help ensure drivers get where they need to go reliably, quickly and easily.”
The new feature is part of Waze’s ongoing efforts to incorporate EV charging station information into its navigation app. Waze plans to expand the feature to other countries in the future.
In a recent announcement, Waze revealed that it has added a feature to its map for EV drivers to identify compatible charging stations. This new capability allows users to view available outlets and view details such as pricing and availability. It is currently available in the United States and Canada, and is expected to reduce the amount of time spent looking for compatible charging stations, which could alleviate range anxiety. Waze plans to expand the feature to other countries in the future.
