According to a recent study, Dacia cars are doing very well on the used market. On the contrary, more advanced models, offered by Renault or Peugeot for example, could quickly suffer a large discount.

Unlike buying real estate, buying a car often turns out to be a bad investment. But some models are doing better than others, shows a recent study conducted by L’Argus and LeBonCoin and presented by

BFMTV

. Comparing the average new purchase price in 2018 to the average selling price on the used market in 2023, they found that the cheapest cars were also the ones that held up the best…

Dacias are popular

The most convincing example is that of the Dacia Duster. Bought for 18,000 euros in 2018, this model would sell for around 15,413 euros in 2023, a discount of only 14%! The same study of Dacia Sandero, bought for 13,000 euros five years ago and sold for 10,642 euros five years later, which represents a drop of 19%. In addition to the low purchase price and the good reputation of these cars in terms of longevity, the fact that the brand rarely advertises also contributes to increasing its price on the second-hand market.

The Fiat 500 is also doing well, with an average discount of 19%, as are some Volkswagen models (T-Roc, Golf and Polo), which are holding their own at prices on the second-hand market rather than new.

“The Fiat 500 benefits from its many differences and a strong marketing strategy that allows each version to maintain a high price”

notes L’Argus in its press release.

The French are still serious about electricity

On the contrary, some models from French manufacturers are subject to significant discounts. Between 2018 and 2023, the Renault Kadjar lost 17,600 euros and the Peugeot 3008 16,000 euros.

“The size of French cars is very important. Renault, Peugeot and Citroën brands are widely available, in new and used sales networks. Logically, in order to successfully sell them, professionals or individuals must reduce their prices”

explains Nicolas Carron, responsible for L’Argus, in a press release.

In the list of this research, which includes 30 models, Renault Zoé is the most reduced in five years, of almost 55%. A fall that can be explained mainly by the doubts of the French about the durability of the battery.
