6 hours Imola: Ferrari with good time in first practice / FIA WEC

China’s Yifei Ye was unbeaten in the first free practice session of the World Sportscar Championship (FIA WEC) at the Imola track. Second place in the session also went to Ferrari. The Mythos brand has its home game in Imola.

The second race weekend of the 2024 season in the FIA WEC has begun. The first free practice session took place on Friday afternoon at the track in Imola – and Yifei Ye was at the head of the field in the private AF Corse Ferrari 499P. The Chinese completed the 4.909 km route in exactly 1:31.347 minutes. Ye shares a car (with conspicuous yellow stickers) with Robert Kubica and Robert Shwartzman.

Ferrari has more reason to celebrate at the home game in Imola. Because second place also went to 499P. The car driven by Antonio Fuoco, Miguel Molina and Nicklas Nielsen was just 0.156 seconds behind at the end. The second factory Ferrari of Alessandro Pier Guidi, James Calado and Antonio Giovinazzi finished the session in fifth place.

Third place went to the Peugeot 9X8 of Mikkel Jensen, Nico Müller and Jean-Eric Vergne in the first free practice session, which was 0.617 seconds behind. Peugeot is at Imola for the first time with the 2024 version of the 9X8, which, as is known, now also has a rear wing. So it seems the car is working well at Imola. Of course, the required times should be carefully measured – especially in free training.

The Lamborghini SC63 of Mirko Bortolotti, Edoardo Mortara and Daniil Kvyat was fourth, 0.668 seconds behind. Lamborghini also has a home game at Imola. In the LMGT3 class, the Corvette Z06 LMGT3.R of Hiroshi Koizumi, Sébastien Baud and Daniel Juncadella was on top with a time of 1:42.113. The second free practice session of the FIA WEC follows on Friday evening at Imola. A third free practice session and qualifying are on the agenda on Saturday.
