After Imola: What’s the situation in the WEC hypercar class? / FIA WEC

The Porsche trio of Kévin Estre, André Lotterer and Laurens Vanthoor continue to lead the overall standings of the World Rally Championship (FIA WEC) after the second race in Imola. When it comes to manufacturers, Porsche is ahead of Toyota and Ferrari.

The second round of the 2024 FIA WEC season ended last weekend at the Imola track. There was a Toyota victory because Ferrari had gambled with their strategy. This brought another 25 championship points to the winning Toyota drivers Mike Conway, Kamui Kobayashi and Nyck de Vries. The trio are now in second place in the World Championship drivers’ standings with a total of 40 points accumulated.

Kévin Estre, André Lotterer and Laurens Vanthoor continue to lead the rankings there. After second place in Imola and victory in Qatar, they already have some cushion at the top with 56 points. Third place in the Drivers’ Championship currently goes to Porsche’s second factory crew, Matt Campbell, Michael Christensen and Frédéric Makowiecki, who they have collected 39 points.

William Stevens, Callum Ilott and Norman Nato from Hertz Team Jota are in fourth place with 27 points, all from Qatar. In Imola, three individual Porsches had zero points. Antonio Fuoco, Miguel Molina and Nicklas Nielsen (Ferrari) round out the top five with 25 points.

Only the best car for each brand counts in the manufacturer’s ranking – although privately used cars are not eligible for points (they have their own place). Porsche leads the manufacturer standings with 57 points, Toyota is in second place with 48 points, ahead of Ferrari with 31 points, and BMW with 17 points. Alpine collected 15 points in fifth place.

In the special series mentioned above for hypercar teams, Porsche #12 from Hertz Team Jota is ahead with 53 points. This is followed by AF Corse-Ferrari #83 with 52 points and Porsche #99 from Proton Racing with 23 points. Round The next WEC is scheduled to take place on May 11, 2024 in Spa-Francorchamps.
