A fancy DS 7 Crossback after a visit to the card making studio. Is it worth putting ceramics on your car?

The DS 7 Crossback is a luxury SUV from DS Automobiles. It is distinguished by driving comfort, high-quality interior materials and unique design. The DS 7 Crossback is gaining more and more popularity in Europe and in addition to the SUV, the brand also offers DS 3 CrossbackDS 4 and DS 9, a comfortable and designer limousine. DS Automobiles cars are the avant-garde of the automotive industry and are considered works of art in motion.

In our editorial office we have a DS 7 Crossback with a 180 HP petrol engine and an EAT8 automatic transmission. A car with a beautiful black metallic color needs regular washing and maintenance, especially in autumn. That’s why after replace tires with Michelin Crossclimate 2 all-seasonwe gave the car to a well-known studio, Description of Mordor from Warsawwho used a ceramic coating on the paint. The treatment not only greatly improves the visual experience, but also protects our car from many external factors.

Ceramic coating has been gaining more and more popularity among car owners in recent years, so we looked at what effect it will have on the “skin” of the DS 7 Crossback edition. Michał Bień from the Mordor Detailing studio explained why it is worth applying ceramic and what exactly it protects against.

Applying a ceramic coating is a very durable and effective way to protect paint against micro-scratches, matting and loss of shine. After the treatment, the DS 7 Crossback slipped and hydrophobic, which makes it easier to wash the car and prevents dirt from accumulating on the bodywork. This, in turn, is translated into an indirect anti-corrosion property of such a solution, but the special feature of the ceramic coating is its aesthetic value. The color of the editor’s car became deeper and took better light, as you can see in the attached photos.

Is it worth using ceramics for a car that is several decades old?

The paint that we use for coating must be in perfect condition. The newer the car, the less work is needed to restore the paint to its original condition. One- or multiple-stage color correction, preceded by thorough washing and decontamination of bodywork, is an important activity before each use of ceramic coatings.
By choosing the right tools and procedures, you can restore the shine of even a car that is decades old, although in the case of older cars, the help of a painter may be needed. Any car with paint in at least good condition is suitable for using ceramics. By car, just come to the card making studio and the professionals will take care of the rest.

Is the coating permanent and when will the treatment need to be repeated?

There are many types of coatings available in the market with different number of layers and durability. Ceramics usually retain their properties for 2 to 5 years.

How much does it cost and what does the price depend on?

A coating with a durability of 5 years can be applied to a new car at a price starting from PLN 2,000. The important factor for the final calculation is the size of the car and the condition of the paint.

What does the paint application process look like on the DS 7 Crossback model? Can we do it ourselves?

The application of ceramics is the end of a series of processes to prepare the painted surface. It is preceded by a thorough washing of the body, removal of metal impurities, asphalt and other particles related to the paint coating. Then perform a single or multi-stage paint correction to remove scratches and micro-scratches. The prepared surface should be completely destroyed and finally, using the applicator, apply one or several even layers of ceramic coating. In order to achieve maximum durability and impact, ceramic coatings are best used in the professional studio.

How to take care of the ceramics in our car, does it need to be washed or take care of special products?

Thanks to its properties, the ceramic coating will make it easy to keep the DS 7 Crossback clean. Caring for the coating involves, among other things, avoiding washing the car directly with a brush in the car wash without touching it. Regular washing without touching or, if necessary, manual instructions will ensure that the coating will last a long time. From time to time, you should visit the studio for professional information and service coatings and possible “opening” of the coating.
