Fiat has been building the Panda for over 40 years – that’s why the small car is a classic. But as long as the model series is, this does not apply to individual models.

During the main inspection (HU), the Panda has “too many things”, as the report “Auto Bild TÜV Report 2023” reports. The third version’s recommendations are: “When buying, look for well-maintained specimens with clean badges.”

Model history: The model series started in 1980; the considered third generation (Type 312) has been in production since 2012. The 2021 facelift brought, among other things, new entertainment with Apple Carplay and Android Auto support and a version with a sporty look.

Body variants: The Fiat Panda 312 model has five doors, no body variants. But there are versions with planking, including the Panda Cross, which gives the car a touch of an SUV.

Dimensions (according to ADAC): 3.65 m to 3.71 mx 1.64 m to 1.67 mx 1.55 m to 1.64 m (LxWxH), trunk volume: 225 l to 870 l.

Strengths: The Panda is large for its class and works with various storage areas, which at the same time also promises a certain level of comfort for driving and sitting on medium roads.

In the first HU, the axle suspension, steering and exhaust system are solid, according to the “Auto Bild Tüv 2023 Report”. The indicators work perfectly, as do the foot and hand brake functions.

Weaknesses: Springs and springs are often criticized in the first TÜV inspection. In the second selection, problems also started with other components of the chassis, including steering links.

Front and rear lights with low beam: high average defect rates in all old standards. Brake discs are also often criticized, from the second HU also the exhaust system, oil loss is common. And pandas often fail the productivity test (AU).

Breakdown behavior: ADAC ranks Pandas from the first registration years 2014, 2018 and 2019 in a good position in its analysis statistics. Some years land in the middle. Club cites battery as part of breakdown (2012, 2015 to 2017).

Engine: gasoline (two and four-cylinder, front and four-wheel drive): 51 kW/69 hp to 66 kW/90 hp; Diesel (four-cylinder, front-wheel drive and all-wheel drive): 55 kW/75 hp and 70 kW/95 hp; Natural gas (two-cylinder, front-wheel drive): 52 kW/70 hp and 63 kW/85 hp. Compact hybrid (three-cylinder, front-wheel drive): 51 kW/70 hp.
