Constantly on top of the best-selling cars, the Dacia Sandero is also one of the best-selling cars five years later. According to Argus research, the small, low-cost compact is actually one of the latest vehicles to lose the least resale value.

For a Sandero bought for 13,000 euros in 2018, the car was resold for 10,642 euros on average five years later, in 2023. That is to say with a discount of only 19%, according to data collected by Argus based on prices on BonCoin. . Even more advantageous: Duster. The Dacia SUV is only 14% off, selling for 15,413 euros in 2023 when the customer had bought it for 18,000 euros.

The price of the car, the lowest at the time of purchase, explains this small discount. Dacia also does a few promotions, no discounts, enough to support the selling price. Brand image also plays a clear role in Dacia’s value.

“The brand has an elegant, understated image, which is satisfying to the customer,” explains Clément Finet, valuation expert at Argus.

Fiat 500, a good deal … To its dealer

Behind the two Dacia models, the Fiat 500 was also a good investment in 2018. The little Fiat has only been reduced by 19%, being sold for just 2,902 euros below its new purchase price.

“The Fiat 500 benefits from its many differences and a strong marketing strategy that allows each version to maintain a high price”, notes Argus in its press release.

The little Italian has also improved its image as an affordable car, an image created during its return to the market in the late 2010s.

Among other models that motorists will not lose much money: Volkswagen T-Roc, Golf and Polo, whose value drops by 25 to 30%.

French products are very cheap

On the contrary, French products, among the most sold on the market, offer attractive low resale values. Peugeot 3008, for example, loses around 16,000 euros between 2018 and 2023, Renault Kadjar more than 17,600 euros.

“The volumes of French cars are very important. Renault, Peugeot and Citroën products are available in large quantities, in new and used sales networks. Quite logically “, in order to successfully sell them, professionals or individuals should adjust their prices down” , analyzes Nicolas Carron, manager of the Valuation Specialists team at Argus in a press release.

If the Kadjar’s decline can be explained by poor sales of this model, that of the Peugeot 3008 is even more surprising. “There are many advertisements of this model, which sold very well because it ticked all the boxes in terms of design, capacity to stay … And while there are many offers, which are weighted by the price”, supports Paul Lebrun, valuation expert in Argus, contacted BFM Business.

Renault Zoé whose prices have not changed

The only electric car in this list of 30 models, the Renault Zoé has been significantly reduced according to Argus figures. Five years after being put on the road, it lost more than 55% of its value. Battery leasing and uncertainty about battery durability initially weighed on its value. But paradoxically, the price is cheap. “There are not many offers on the used electric car market, when you want to buy, you buy Zoé”, explains Paul Lebrun, inventory expert at Argus.

And compared to its competitors, “Zoé shows better performance over time than its competitors”, emphasizes our expert. Batteries age over time, a sign of “good technology”, which plays into the high value adjustment of small electric cars.

Methodology: For each model, the rate of change was calculated between the average new price in 2018 and the average used price observed in 2023. Each model is ranked against the others based on this single criterion. Experts considered that from 5 years of car use the idea of ​​reduction was important.
