Nissan has big plans for its electric version. The first breakthrough will be the new Nissan Micra, a sibling of the Renault 5 that will be presented this year. What do we already know about this new EV?

Nissan announced the new electric Micra a while ago. It is supposed to be Nissan’s entry-level car and built by Renault in Northern France. Development and technology are taken care of by Renault, while Nissan is responsible for design. Now we’re two years later and the electric Micra is on the starting blocks.

Nissan Micra design

In the top row of teaser images we already see a glimpse of the new Micra. Round light is selected front and back. Later, Nissan also showed a concept version of the Nismo version (bottom row of the photo). The Micra received a larger spoiler, wider wheel arches and even gull-wing doors. Although they will never reach the production stage.

Nissan Micra brother of Renault 5

Renault therefore provides technology. The EV is based on the same ‘AmpR Small’ platform as the electric Renault 5. So the Micra is expected to have similar technical specifications. Renault 5 has a power of 95, 120 or 150 hp.

There is a 40 kWh or 52 kWh battery. The first has a range of 300 km, and with a large battery you can drive up to 400 km on a single charge. Fast charging is possible at 80 or 100 kW, depending on which electric motor you choose. It seems that the 95 hp engine is not fast charging and only has an 11 kW charger on board.

Also the new Leaf, Qashqai and Juke

The new Micra is the first, but certainly not the only EV from Nissan in the pipeline. The Japanese are working on three new electric models: the third-generation Nissan Leaf and electric versions of the Nissan Qashqai and Juke. They all come off the production line in Sunderland. This Nissan plant in the UK is also home to the current Leaf.

The design of the new models is still a secret, but Nissan has already lifted the curtain on each car in the form of a concept car. The new leaf will come from the Chill-Out Concept from 2021, the Qashqai EV will resemble the Hyper Urban Concept and the electric Juke on the Hyper Punk Concept.
