Why Polestar 2 has suddenly become 9,700 euros

Why Polestar 2 has suddenly become 9,700 euros

Especially for a new brand that only sells electric cars, Polestar got off to a good start. In 2020, around 3,000 Dutch people went for the Polestar 2, but after that it became fewer every year. In 2023, the counter will stand at more than 1,900 pieces.

Sales figures also fell globally, with the result that the company wants to lay off some of its employees. In addition, it emerged last week that Volvo is no longer interested in investing in Polestar. And this is the time when two new models are coming soon: Polestar 4 and Polestar 3.

To boost Dutch sales figures a bit, the brand is now making the Polestar 2 even cheaper. Until recently you had the entry-level Polestar 2 for 51,200 euros. For that money you got a 272 hp Single Motor Standard Range with a 69 kWh battery, good for a WLTP range of 546 km.

Polestar 2 with a subsidy of 9200 euros cheaper

The price was above the SEPP rate of 45 grand, so as a private buyer or private lessee you could benefit from a purchase subsidy. But now Polestar has reduced the price by 6,250 euros to 44,950 euros, including delivery costs. This also includes a subsidy of 2,950 euros for individuals, meaning that you can get an affordable Polestar 2 for no less than 9,200 euros less than before.

Polestar 2 cheaper than Volvo XC40 electric

What’s interesting about this price cut is that the Polestar 2 is now more than 1,000 euros cheaper than the electric Volvo XC40 (consumer price 45,995 euros). And to make it even more annoying for Volvo: the Polestar 2 now costs almost the same as the compact Volvo EX30 Single Motor Extended in the popular Plus version (44,935 euros). Is that Polestar’s revenge because Volvo doesn’t want to keep investing money in the premium subsidiary?

Other versions of the Polestar 2 have also been discounted

The Polestar 2 Long Range Single Motor has also been significantly reduced in price: from 55,200 to 51,200 euros. Although this also makes a difference of 4,000 euros, it is not enough to qualify for SEPP. As consolation, you get less power (299 hp), a bigger battery (82 kWh) and a longer range (655 km).

And last but not least: for all Long Range versions you can order the Plus package at no extra charge. Until recently, this was still on the price list for 5,000 euros! Therefore, the contents of the Plus Package are very useful: a panel roof, fully adjustable electric seats, front and rear seat heating, a high-quality audio system, a heat pump and a tinted rear window are the most important items. .

Prefer the thickest Polestar 2 available? Then you will have to spend 4,700 euros less in your wallet than before. Polestar 2 Long Range Dual Motor (421 hp, 593 km range) goes from 59,900 euros to 55,200 euros. This version with Performance Pack (476 hp, range 568 km) has also been reduced in price by 4,700 euros and now costs 61,700 euros. Including the value of the Plus Pack, the price reduction of the most expensive versions is close to 10,000 euros!
