The new eight-cylinder from China overtakes the Honda Gold Wing

New eight-cylinder engines will be launched in China soon. Great Wall Motor (GWM) – a major car manufacturer – has plans to enter the motorcycle market with a pair of eight-cylinder motorcycles. These engines can surpass those of the Honda Gold Wing.

Technology: Single cylinders are no longer needed

Rumors and spy shots have surfaced about these machines, and GWM chairman and 12-time billionaire Wei Jianjun has posted a video on social media showing a glimpse of the touring bike. It looks like this motorcycle will make its debut at the Beijing Auto Show on April 25. Another eight-cylinder that may be in the pipeline is a cruiser that bears a similar resemblance to the Honda Rune. We have not seen this Honda in Europe and it was an American market model. Both motorcycles are likely to be launched under a different brand name.

Inspired by the Honda Gold Wing

GWM has filed patent applications for various aspects of the motorcycle, and images show the eight-cylinder with a design inspired by the Honda Gold Wing but improved in several areas. The engine is expected to have a displacement of around 2000 cc and will be mated to a dual-semi-automatic gearbox and shaft drive. The frame and front suspension are similar to those of the Honda Gold Wing.

There are no top sellers

Although eight-cylinder touring motorcycles may not be big sellers, Great Wall Motor has the financial resources and R&D capabilities to enter the motorcycle market and beat out direct competitors. The GWM would immediately surpass all other Chinese motorcycle brands in the number of cylinders. Many of them recently released their first four-cylinder engines.
