Here’s what you should know about road closures ahead of this year’s Long Beach Grand Prix – Daily News

The 49th annual Acura Grand Prix of Long Beach is almost here.

That means several things: On the one hand, the city of Long Beach will essentially be one big party from Friday through Sunday, April 19-21.

But on the other hand, navigating the area in your car will be a challenge. And not only during the three-day event – but for a few days before and the day after.

The expressway closures, in fact, will begin on Wednesday, April 17, with others closed until Monday, April 22.

Here are the streets to avoid over the next week.

Wednesday, April 17

All roads leading to the Grand Prix circuit from Shoreline Drive and Seaside Way will be closed at 4 p.m.

A few hours later, at 7am, the northbound Queensway Bridge and the southbound Queensway Bridge at Shoreline Drive will also be closed, along with Aquarium Way south of Shoreline Drive and Shoreline Drive westbound generally.

At 3 p.m., eastbound Shoreline Drive from Broadway to Ocean Boulevard will also be closed.

Pine Avenue, according to a recent city news release, will remain open to traffic on Wednesday for people visiting hotels, waterfront restaurants and Shoreline Village.

The Aquarium of the Pacific is accessible from Chestnut Place and Golden Shore Avenue.

Friday through Sunday, April 19-21

During the Grand Prix of Long Beach, the city will close access to the Hyatt Regency, Shoreline Village and Shoreline Marina from Ocean Boulevard and Pine Avenue will be closed each morning at 6 a.m.

Southbound Pine Avenue and the inner streets of The Pike north of Shoreline Drive will also be closed each morning at 6 a.m., the city said.

During the day, access to the south side of the Grand Prix track will be provided to event ticket holders and boat owners with permits at the intersection of Alamitos Avenue and Ocean Boulevard.

Pine Avenue will reopen to general traffic at 7 p.m. daily so people can get to the Hyatt Regency, Shoreline Village and other areas in the area.

Monday, April 22

Long Beach expects all roads in the waterfront area, including east- and west-bound Shoreline Drive, the Queensway Bridge off the highway, Pine Avenue, and Shoreline Village Drive to reopen to traffic by 5 p.m. Monday.
