Podcast: What have the Chinese done wrong so far?

Electricity, electricity, electricity. Chinese automakers from BYD to Nio to XPeng are trying to gain a foothold in Germany. Chery wants to do things differently – and so China’s leading car exporter is relying on combustion engines as a first step to make its way into Europe.

Two new brands Omoda and Jaecoo were established specifically for this purpose, explains Jochen Tüting, managing director and head of development at Chery Europa GmbH. In the podcast we talk about why the combustion engine is the right choice to launch a new brand and discuss the differences between the European and Chinese car markets. Both in terms of customer needs and also in terms of technical requirements for cars.

In this episode, Jochen Tüting explains the advantages that Chinese cars offer but also what discrimination the Chinese car manufacturer has to face. We talk about the subsidies and influence of the Chinese government, about the speed of development in China and explain why China does not have to be called cheap.
