Vasseur explains “the only way we have” to beat Red Bull and Verstappen

Frederic Vasseur tried to analyze Max Verstappen’s weaknesses and talked about Ferrari’s chances of beating Red Bull already this season.

Although Red Bull started 2024 still wide open in front of everyone, Ferrari can still say they are very satisfied with their start to the season. One win, four podiums and only second place in the constructors’ championship, just 21 points from the top after the first four trips represent the road map perhaps even more than the expectations of the previous day, and SF24 which, a total of several problems faced the qualification.proved that it could hold its own against the RB20 in the race.

However, consider that you have the upper hand on Max Verstappen in a state of grace not an easy task at all. He knows it Frederic Vasseur, who, as a guest on RadioFrance’s “L’esprit sport” radio show, tried to analyze the Dutchman’s weaknesses: “He’s the best, and the best drivers attract the best engineers, it’s like a virtuous circle.”

“Our aim is to break this vicious circle by trying to be as close as possible to put them under pressure. We have to push them to make mistakes, to take risks. In Australia we showed we can do it.”

“Red Bull is a role model for me, I respect them a lot. We will continue to appreciate the fact that we have taken many steps forward.”

Speaking instead of Ferrari’s chances of beating Red Bull and targets between now and the end of the season, the Frenchman said: “We always want to win, even if Red Bull is faster. We must have the will to win the race. It’s the only way we can prepare well for the weekend.”

“The Monday after the win in Australia everyone was happy, different situation compared to last year. I ask the team this: I want them to keep trying to improve themselves.”

Ferrari is now seen in China intent on beating Red Bull to victory, on a circuit which, at least on paper, should be better suited to the SF24’s characteristics than that of Suzuka.

To understand though how much the new sprint format will affect the weekend, and the teams they will have just 60 minutes of free exercise to get the best setup from a dual race perspective.
