Winners: Marquez, Bagnaia, Martin and the best / MotoGP

Behind the all-time Italian icon Giacomo Agostini, an exciting 2024 MotoGP season ensured impressive performances for a long list of the most successful GP pilots. Vice champion Bagnaia fired the biggest rocket.

After twenty MotoGP weekends and 40 races, the media also have to sort out the large amount of data and results released. A long list of all race winners in the World Motorcycle Road Championship on asphalt also ended up on the desk.

Rather than quickly dismiss the document, which has grown to seven A4 pages after 75 years of racing, a careful look at the front page of the “all-time” winners list reveals some surprising information. Behind Giacomo Agostini (122 GP victories), who seems to be carved in granite, several lines have started to move.

As always, the starting number 93 appeared, as is known, Marc Marquez celebrated the resurgence feared by his rivals in the saddle of Gresini Ducati. Marquez rewarded himself with three GP wins; The Spaniard reclaimed third place on the World Cup table. With 88 wins, Marquez remains in fourth place among all GP winners. But ahead of the 2025 season, only two victories separate Marc Marquez from third place, which is held by Spain’s most successful pilot to date, Angel Nieto.

With the pilot re-established in the official Ducati factory team, the best bet is that the #93 will soon officially take the Spaniard’s title for the most Gp wins.

Meanwhile, the then 32-year-old would have his toughest rival, arch-rival Valentino Rossi, directly in his sights again. With 115 wins for VR46, the MotoGP carrot is far away. Even if the new Ducati factory rider was unlikely to make a full success, Marquez would not be able to rally in Italy until 2026 at the earliest.

However, a tie in terms of winning the title would be possible. If Marc Marquez wins the title in the first class, it will be 9:9.

The performance of the 2024 world vice-champion is also remarkable. In terms of race wins, Pecco Bagnaia was the most successful athlete of the season. With a record eleven wins, which equates to a 55 percent rate, Bagnaia made a big splash in the list of the best of all time.

Passing the likes of Loris Capirossi, Eddie Lawson, John Surtees and Jorge Martinez, they climbed nine places. This means that the Italian is already in 11th place. If the new former #63 achieves the same number of victories next year, he will pass Casey Stoner, Max Biaggi and Toni Mang, among others, into the top 10 in history.

Jorge Martin was also able to accelerate. However, out of the incredible 32 races that eventually lifted the #89 to the premier class throne, there were only three wins on Sunday’s GP. The Madrilenian’s progress in the list of the most successful runners was therefore more moderate. Martin has at least overtaken current figures such as Brad Binder and Pedro Acosta and is now in 45th place with 18 GP wins – and is therefore on the verge of entering the front page of the list.
