With its elegant design, this model stimulates the desire for series production

While Hyundai is taking over its Ioniq line, which launched in 2016, out of the market in the 2022 summer season, the Ioniq 6, which is still in its infancy, is now announcing its second member. Koreans have now allowed the design and interior view of the future electric volt 800 volt in a model that is very close to the production standard. Like the 5 introduced in 2021, the new Ioniq design also features a design that combines the styles of the past with retro-futuristic elements. However, 6 does not make the bridge visible in the example of the sister, but takes a different direction clearly. Although the technology will be similar, Ioniq 5 and 6 are very different types.

Hyundai already expected in 2020 with the Prophecy lesson that 6 will be different from Ioniq 5. The concept of aerodynamic sedan can also be found in the production structure, albeit in a more scientific interpretation in many respects. In fact, it is not surprising that the column structure would be much better. But the almost consistent lack of Ioniq 5 references is surprising.

6 is clearly not a sedan version of the hatchback 5, but a statement in its own right. Hyundai’s international innovation boss Sangyup Lee is still talking about the Ioniq family, whose members, however, may look very different, like pieces of a chess game. Even if a king, queen, knight or bishop are completely different from each other – based on more analogy and chess – they still form a strong team.

Just a closer look reveals a few similarities that should distinguish all future members of the Ioniq family. This includes a large wheel because of the E-GM platform and the corresponding number of spaces for passengers, interiors with sustainable material and coconut effect, as well as parametric pixels on the front and rear areas.

The different lights behind the Ioniq 6 comprise a large number of rectangular sizes.

As with 5, small rectangular light components also ensure a wow effect on 6. The back of the seed has a continuous lantern made up of two long rows of many small rectangles. An extra portion of light adorns the edge of the damage, while the vertical and fog lamps arranged vertically are attached to the rear apron of the diffuser. The theme of small rectangles of light is also reflected in headlights in the form of daylight signatures. The light structure of the Ioniq 6 is not just short, with the help of many small light points there are various possibilities for the animation light sequence.

drag the coefficient of only 0.21

The outer skin has aerodynamic emphasis and the roof line extends in a wide range and extends to a short back rump. Additionally, there are door handles with metal sheet metal and small camera handles on the front doors, which serve as a simple replacement for exterior mirrors. As with Ioniq 5, external digital mirrors will be available at an additional cost. The effort reward is a 0.21 drag coefficient. Compared to edgy 5 and 0.29, 6 has obvious advantages.

Unfortunately, it seems that 6 is less flat than Prophecy at 1.50 meters and the door windows are not a frame. These are common agreements for red pen rule in mass production. The increase in height compared to Prophecy is due to the construction of the battery on the car floor to be the same for all Ioniq. If the framed doors also have to make a bit of wind noise on the highway, according to Hyundai designer Simon Loasby, this would be too expensive for a sound system like the Ioniq 6.

At 4.86 meters, 6 is more than 20 centimeters more than 5, while its 2.95 meter wheel is 5 centimeters shorter. However, the scope of development in Ioniq 6 remains generous front and back. Despite the roof sloping down to the back, the back provides plenty of room for legs as well as a nice head room. 6 is also characterized by flat floors around and, in an optional four-seater version, a continuous station layout. Among other things, the interior is pleasing with surfaces made of recycled plastic, and a pilot room with a warm, home environment thanks to the available lighting. And then there are a few chic details like flashing panels that are reminiscent of the first generation of the iMac.

There are four small pixels on the steering wheel of the Ioniq 6. They provide visual feedback from sound recognition and also provide information about charge level.

Another special feature is the four light elements in the center of the steering wheel. They provide visual feedback from voice recognition and also provide information about payment status. Thanks to the 6 pixel display on the front of the car, outsiders can also follow the charging progress. And as befits a modern electric car, the pilot room provides two 12-inch displays on the dashboard as well as two optional controls in the rear mirrors with the camera. The left-back operation displays operational-related information, the touch screen on the right is responsible for everything else.

For now, Hyundai says little about the Ioniq 6 technology, which is expected to start earlier this year. But E-GMP architecture and 800-volt technology place strict limits on vehicle, performance and battery. At this point, 6 will be equal to Ioniq 5. The same condition should be applied for the price, which may even be slightly lower than the Ioniq 5 of the corresponding engine.
