Mirafiori will make a new version of the FIAT 500 with an eDCT transmission

At the beginning of this week, CEO Carlos Tavares was in Turin to talk with union representatives and celebrate the start of production distribution of hybrid models. The production of eDCT for electric vehicles in this historic location is a new beginning for this factory which has been busy for many years. Uncertainty exists for workers when production slows down and new varieties are not immediately available. Producing a maximum of 600,000 infections won’t end this, but it’s a start. It is one of the 8 activities in Mirafiori Automotive Park 2030. There is also a Battery Technology Center, Circular Economy Hub, grEEn campus, Pro One department. It is turning old FIAT production halls into a unique area focused on recycling, where more than 240 million euros will be invested.

Tavares may not have promised an additional model right away, but he did promise that the production 500e will be given a new boost. The range will increase thanks to platform modifications and new battery technology. The price will also drop due to the addition of the new base version. This represents an additional investment of 100 million euros. The existing model may also receive a cosmetic update. There is no launch date for this update yet.
