Wolfgang Schuster: End of work in New Zealand / IRRC

The entry list for the New Zealand “Suzuki International Series” includes not only the names of British TT winners Peter Hickman and Davey Todd, but also German Wolfgang Schuster.

Since the surprising appearance of the Austrian globetrotter Horst Saiger, the three events of the “Suzuki International Series” in remote New Zealand are also well known in Central Europe. In 2014, Styrian, who lives in Liechtenstein, even managed to put the road racing elite in their place, to their surprise. Two years later he finished the streak in second place.

“I also followed the Saiger race with interest and thought it would be nice to race myself at some point,” Wolfgang Schuster told SPEEDWEEK.com. “There was already contact with the organizer a few years ago and it almost happened, but then I hurt myself in a fall shortly before and my start was canceled as a result.”

Because Schuster decided to hang up his helmet at the end of the season, the plan to start the race in New Zealand had to be put into practice this year. “If someone is not available at the end of the season to sponsor me, I will be running my last race on December 26 at the Graveyard Circuit,” the former Czech 250cc champion said, giving himself a small way out.

The road racing specialist, who has finished sixth in IRRC Supersport twice, set out on his journey to New Zealand with a clear idea. “When you’re flying in the middle of the world, you also want to be successful. I’d like to bring home a trophy or two. I’m hoping for a top-five finish in the overall standings and I’d like to at least upset the locals at the Circuit of the Graves.
