Woman steals identity, withdraws thousands from bank account

LINCOLN, Neb. (KOLN) – Lincoln Police are hoping the community can help improve the approval rate of their Crime Stoppers program by providing tips about these two cases.

The female suspect shown in the video was involved in an identity fraud situation at the First State Bank on South 27th Street and Grainger Parkway.

Police said he entered the bank and made two withdrawals, one for $7,200 and the other for $6,850.

He reportedly knew the victim’s Social Security number and checking account number. He also provided an ID which was later found to be fake.

Police said the woman went to a First State Bank branch near 48th Street and Old Cheney Road and tried to withdraw another $5,000.

The first activity looked suspicious, so the Old Cheney branch was alerted. By the time the suspect arrived, they were able to divert him from attempting to get an additional $5,000 from the victim’s account.

On Monday, March 18, a male suspect went to the D’Leon area at 12th and South streets around 6:30 am.

Police said he played the slot machines for a while, and after making sure the bank was clear, he went behind the counter and took a bank bag that contained $2,000.
