The women’s tennis squad experienced a crushing 7-0 defeat at the hands of Wyoming on Saturday, the first such shutout loss in the program’s history.

The second singles match saw similar results. Wyoming’s Paula Gomez won 6-2, 6-1 over sophomore Hannah Blanchard. The third singles match, which pitted junior Ava Brown against the Cowgirls’ Astrid Carrera, followed a similar pattern. Carrera took the match 6-2, 6-1.
The fourth singles match, between Lady Panther Kelli Johnson and Wyoming’s Tiegan Knight, was the only one to reach a third set. Knight won the first set 6-2, but Johnson responded with a 6-4 victory in the second. However, Knight managed to rally and take the third set 6-2.
The singles play was followed by three doubles matches. The first, between Blanchard-Brown and Sanchez-Gomez, ended 6-0, 6-0. The second, between Johnson-Katherine Greer and Carrera-Knight, ended with a 6-3, 6-3 victory for the Cowgirls. The third, between Lauren Smith and Makenzie Gass and the Wyoming duo of Madeline Fonseca and Reagan Besecker, ended 6-1, 6-1.
The Lady Panthers will look to bounce back from the setback when they travel to face Colorado State on Wednesday.
