Tesla software update: New functions thanks to Spring Release

“Your Tesla improves while you sleep!” The American electric car manufacturer is currently spreading this news through the news service X. Tesla describes new functions from the so-called “Spring Release” – the latest software update. This is automatically transferred to the 3 models, Y, S and X “in the air”, i.e. without visiting the workshop.

After the update, Tesla drivers of the mentioned models from 2021 onwards will be the first to notice the revised interface. When the car is parked, the large center screen now shows your car in full-screen view and gives you access to standard functions and some new car features. In addition, the activated Auto-Pilot display can be expanded after the update, with the navigation map moving smaller to the upper right corner. The media player has also changed a bit, now offering larger buttons and quick access to recently played media.

Open the trunk hands-free

Tesla also offers a beta version of the automatic shift function for the two flagships Model S and Model X. This must be activated through the pedals and steering wheel settings in the vehicle menu and can then automatically switch from drive mode (D) to gear. back (R). This should, for example, make maneuvering in and out of parking spaces easier. Of course, the car uses environmental analysis through camera monitoring to do that.

The latest Model 3 (Highland) and Tesla Model S and X from 2021 will receive a function called “Handless Trunk” with the spring version. In the future, trunks will be able to be opened hands-free by standing still behind the car for a moment with the smartphone key. Then the trunk lid opens automatically. The feature must be enabled in the vehicle settings.

Rear passengers with route information

Most of the features of the Tesla Spring Edition are related to infotainment. Americans dealt with better integration of native programs such as Spotify or Audible. The queue function for topic lists is now also synchronized from other user devices. In addition, the Spotify app can now also control the playback speed in the Tesla. This function is often used by users for podcasts, audio books or radio plays.

Rear passengers can also see information about the current journey on their screen after the update. Besides the map, this also includes routes, arrival times or outside temperatures. Anyone who also uses the Tesla app in guard mode, in the future will receive a small live clip from their car sent to their mobile phone as soon as the proximity sensors in the car trigger the alarm.
