Martin Prokop and Michal Ernst will use the Skoda Fabia RS Rally2 for Rally Sardinia.
Prokop started his career more than two decades ago and joined the world championship in 2005. His biggest achievement to date is the JWRC title he won in 2009 with Jan Tomanek. In the same year, the Czechs took second place in the PWRC.
In recent years, the driver from Igława has reduced his appearances on special rally stages. Instead, he expanded his sporting interests to foreign countries.
Of course, Prokop’s favorite round in the WRC calendar is the Sardinian Championship. The 40-year-old has already competed sixteen times on the Mediterranean island. In 2013, he was fifth overall.
Prokop will also be present during next week’s edition. This time, the Skoda Fabia RS Rally2 will start, thus returning to the car of the Czech brand for the first time since 2005. Then the Fabia Kit Car started in the Prague Rallysprint. Last season, he competed on home tracks in an Octavia WRC.
Prokop’s plans for the second half of the season are unknown. For now, Skoda’s performance in Sardinia will be a one-time event. The car will be replaced by Baumschlager Rallye&Racing. During the Tour, the Czech may return to the Ford Fiesta Rally2, which was sent to Africa after starting in Mexico.
Besides Prokop, Team Orlen will be represented in Sardinia by: Kajetan Kajetanowicz and Maciej Szczepaniak as well as Mikołaj Marczyk and Szymon Gospodarczyk. The Polish trio will be assisted by Daniel Chwist and Kamil Heller. All will drive the new Fabia RS Rally2.
