WTR Acura leads, heartache for Ganassi Cadillac

At the Acura Grand Prix of Long Beach, WTR Acura scored a breakthrough victory with the leading two cars of Gustavo Yacaman and Dane Cameron, while Chip Ganassi Racing’s Cadillac DPi-V.R. was left with heartache after a late-race collision between their cars.

The second round of the IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship began with a difficult start for the two Ganassi Cadillac DPi-V.Rs. As the field crossed the start line, the No. 01 Cadillac DPi-V.R. of Renger van der Zande and Ryan Briscoe was forced to take evasive action to avoid contact with the No. 67 Ford GT of Richard Westbrook, resulting in the pair dropping to the back of the field.

The Cadillacs had a strong race, making their way up to the front of the field. However, their hopes of victory were dashed in the closing laps when their cars collided, forcing van der Zande and Briscoe to pit for repairs and dropping them out of contention for the win.

Meanwhile, the WTR Acura team of Gustavo Yacaman and Dane Cameron ran a flawless race, taking the lead late in the race and holding off the challenge of the No. 31 Action Express Racing Cadillac DPi-V.R. of Felipe Nasr and Eric Curran to take the checkered flag.

It was a sweet victory for WTR Acura and a heartbreaking result for Chip Ganassi Racing. The two teams will now look ahead to the next round of the IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship, the Acura Sports Car Challenge at Mid-Ohio, where the battle for the championship will continue.
