The Wyoming Cowgirls tennis team blanked the Creighton Bluejays on Wednesday in a comprehensive display of technical prowess. The Cowgirls, playing with a difficult intensity, were rarely threatened in their 6-0 victory.
The Cowgirls’ dominance began on the singles court, with all three matches finishing in straight sets. Senior Jodi Richardson showcased her technical acumen in her 6-3, 6-3 win over Creighton’s No. 1, Maddie Whittaker. Richardson’s sharp groundstrokes and crisp net play proved too much for Whittaker to handle.
The Cowgirls’ No. 2, senior Marissa Baca, was equally impressive. Baca’s 6-2, 6-2 victory over Creighton’s No. 2, Samantha White, featured powerful forehands and well-executed volleys.
The Cowgirls’ No. 3, freshman Jessie Taylor, completed the singles sweep with a 6-2, 6-2 victory over Creighton’s No. 3, Emily Scott. Taylor’s impressive footwork and shrewd shot selection helped her secure the win.
In doubles, the Cowgirls continued their dominance. Richardson and Baca, the team’s No. 1 duo, earned an 8-3 victory over Whittaker and White. Taylor and her partner, sophomore Samantha Anderson, then followed with an 8-4 victory over Scott and her partner, freshman Emily Harris.
The Cowgirls’ performance on Wednesday was a testament to their technical excellence. With their 6-0 victory, the Cowgirls moved to 4-1 in the season and remain in contention for the Big 12 championship.
