Polestar enters the smartphone market with the rebranded Meizu 21 Pro

The Polestar phone is official: it’s the first smartphone from an electric car manufacturer, and it focuses entirely on artificial intelligence. The device was presented in China, the only market where it will be sold at least for now, in the last few hours. The Polestar phone is at the top of the range, with Snapdragon 8 Gen 3; it has a very tall display, with an aspect ratio of 21:9, and identical bezels on all four sides. The edges are flat and metal, the back body is also flat and nice and smooth, except of course for the camera. A natural combination of elements… What?

Those who follow the world of technology more closely may have a vague feeling of Dèja-vu: it seems that it is actually a new version of the Meizu 21 Pro, presented at the beginning of last month. With the device Meizu intended to close its adventures in the world of smartphones, but a more accurate reading could be that the company will try to move forward with a new brand and a new image. The explanation is “simple”: Meizu is controlled by the Chinese Geely group, which in turn is a co-owner of Polestar, a company born as a division of Volvo and now operating independently (many shareholders, including Geely, also. include Volvo itself).

If the hardware is quite similar to that of the Meizu 21 Pro, the operating system is another story. Here we get Polestar Mobile OS, which is of course still an Android skin, but with some differences compared to Meizu’s. Here The generating AI is well integrated: Among the many features offered are image search, image generation, outline creation and much more. As it is easy to imagine, the device offers a deep integration with the cars of the brand, even if it is currently limited to the Polestar 4.

Apparently, the CEO of Meizu admitted, speaking to journalists at the launch event in Beijing, that Polestar’s decision is (also) a response to the entry of historical smartphone manufacturers, such as Xiaomi and Huawei, in the automotive sector. In any case, below we report the technical details of the Meizu 21 Pro; as we said, they should be exactly the same. Polestar has so far remained largely anonymous and has not confirmed more specifics such as the manufacturer of the display. It seems that the only difference in equipment is that the Polestar Phone has support for technology UWB communicationeven if it is not currently in use.
