Lando Norris F1 frustrated: “I felt like I lost the battle against Red Bull and Ferrari”

Lando Norris was very strong on Saturday as he qualified third for the F1 Grand Prix of Japan. The opposite was true during Sunday’s race, when he said he felt completely powerless.

Bee Sky Sports Norris looks back on the race, which did not go according to the Brit’s plan. Norris started from P3, but would finish in P5. “It was a tough race. Compared to Ferrari we weren’t good enough. I think everything is back together with Red Bull, Ferrari, and us. It’s a shame. It doesn’t feel good to start third and then drop.”

Norris felt hopeless

According to Norris, it felt impossible for him to drive competitively as he battled Red Bull and Ferrari drivers. “It feels like you’re fighting a losing battle against these guys (Red Bull and Ferrari), because they can do a lot more. They can go longer, widen and have a bigger tire delta. That’s hard to compare. We’ve tried well and we did what what we could do. We got a lot of points behind the top two teams and that’s all we could do. Leclerc did a good job so far on one set of tires very early because it put us in line with what Ferrari was doing.”

Norris sees the Ferrari as too fast

Norris says that discussions will take place within McLaren after the race weekend, where McLaren was the third team. “To see if we could finish fourth in a better way. But at the moment it’s difficult to make these kinds of decisions. Ferrari is clearly ahead. That’s how it’s been all year. And it’s still the case. We haven’t fixed anything all year, so there is no reason for us to be ahead.”
