This will be a historical reference, but probably the prospect of a future major marketing partnership with the famous American IT company. Formula 1’s Scuderia Ferrari is set to announce Hewlett-Packard (HP) as its new title sponsor, in a similar vein to that between Oracle and Red Bull.

Blue blouse

Ferrari will show unexpected colors, La Plata blue and Dino blue – blues that refer to Ferrari’s rich heritage. The two shades of blue will be used in several aspects of the world of Scuderia Ferrari, including in the special edition of the SF-24 Formula 1 car, which will be used only for the race in Miami and revealed directly in Florida.

Another example of this conversation between the past and the present is represented by two 296 GTS, which will feature customized advertisements in these two historic blues. These colors bring to life the memories of historic victories, famous characters and the artisans of Maranello who proudly wore them during the first victories of the Racing Horse.

The light blue, Azzurro La Plata, the national racing color of Argentina, also features the color worn by legendary driver Alberto Ascari during his most successful seasons. The two-time Italian world champion usually wore a blue jersey and matching hat, which he considered his good luck charm. The same color also appeared on the racing suits of drivers in the 1960s, including those of John Surtees, Lorenzo Bandini, Ludovico Scarfiotti and Chris Amon. Niki Lauda’s racing suit in his first year with Scuderia Ferrari was also this blue, as were the shirts worn by the Maranello team. We can also look at it during the historic French Grand Prix, where the technicians working on the seats of the Italians were wearing “old” blue blouses.

Another color that Ferrari is reviving for Miami is Azzurro Dino, a shade of blue favored by many Scuderia drivers in the past, such as Arturo Merzario and Clay Regazzoni, the latter most recently wearing it in 1974.

Ferrari and NART

This color selection also serves as a historical nod to Ferrari’s connection to the American automotive scene. It marks the 70th anniversary of the brand’s presence in North America, where the iconic Rosso Corsa was replaced by the American white and blue for the last two races of the 1964 Formula 1 season. Following the approval of the 250LM by the Italian federation, which had prompted Ferrari to threaten to leave F1 (already!), Italian cars were imported for the US tour under the color of NART (a design created by Ferrari’s US importer) and therefore featured in the official colors of Yankee cars! It was in these unusual colors that John Surtees won his world title. It is a combination that was also used on other Ferrari racing cars by the North American Racing Team (NART) founded by importer Luigi Chinetti. On some NART cars, the blue color of the wheels was combined with the red version to create an interesting and attractive color combination.

Summing up

Blue will feature on Ferrari for the Miami Grand Prix. The racehorse will celebrate 70 years of existence with Uncle Sam and pay homage to the historic mechanics’ livery and NART blue livery, the American design that went into many of Maranello’s racecars in the race.
