Yuki Tsunoda after P10 in Japan: “Relieved” / Formula 1

For the first time in his Formula 1 career, Yuki Tsunoda was able to score points in front of his home crowd at Suzuka. The Japanese from the Racing Bull team are sure: Two things were important for this success.

There was no home race for Yuki Tsunoda in his first year of Formula 1, because in 2021 the Suzuka roller coaster race was canceled, as it was the year before, because of the corona epidemic. In the next two years, the Racing Bulls driver left the Japanese track empty-handed. In 2022 he had to settle for 13th place in the home race last year he came twelfth.

His joy was even greater this year because he scored his first World Championship point on home soil by finishing tenth in the Japanese GP. The 23-year-old was beaming from ear to ear as he admitted to the Sky cameras: “It wasn’t easy because the Aston Martin boys were fast towards the end of the race.”

However, the Visa Cash App RB team was able to process the Japanese driver so quickly during the pit stop that they managed to finish in the final points. “That was a highlight, as well as the incredible support of the fans here at the track, which was amazing,” he enthused about the eleventh step of the World Cup.

Tsunoda admitted: “I’m relieved because I haven’t been able to score points here for the past two years – although I got to Q3 last year.” And he added happily: “This time I did it, and I am sure that it would not have worked without the great work of the team and the great support of the fans.” Everyone has done a great job this time.”
