Nissan and Mitsubishi to develop an electric pickup together

To get the electric part, Nissan and Mitsubishi have decided to join forces. Together, the two Japanese will collaborate to develop a 100% electric pickup intended for the American market. The future model will be made in Mexico, but not before 2027.

The Japanese want to get

There was a time when Nissan was considered a leader in electric cars. A long time ago, around the 2010s, when the brand was almost the only general brand to offer a model of this type: Leaf. But the Japanese took more than 10 years to launch its second electric model. Meanwhile, other manufacturers have woken up and Nissan has fallen far behind.

To make up for lost time, Nissan wants to pull out all the stops. For example, the company plans to launch six new 100% electric models in Europe by 2026. By this date, the company estimates that 40% of its range will be electric. The manufacturer also promises that electric cars will have the same price as thermal cars by 2030. To face the American market, Nissan has decided to join forces with its partner Mitsubishi.

Soon Nissan/Mitsubishi electric pick-up?

The two companies have been linked since 2016. Following the CO2 emissions scandal, Carlos Ghosn, then CEO of the Renault-Nissan alliance, decided to take a 34% stake in Mitsubishi. Two Japanese manufacturers today connect a little more power to jointly develop 100% electric pick-up in Uncle Sam’s country.

A new partnership in the field of electric vehicles for Nissan, after the one recently announced by Honda. Another Japanese brand that is also not a reference in the electronics field. And Mitsubishi, Nissan wants to make the American market a priority. However, this futuristic takeover won’t see the light of day before 2027, at the earliest.

These include the Tesla Cybertruck, Chevy Silverado EV, Ford F-150 Lightning and Rivian R1T. Others are nearing release such as the GMC Sierra EV and the RAM 1500 EV.
