1817bhp Hennessey Venom F5 Revolution breaks COTA lap record – next 300mph test

Like its predecessor, the Hennessey Venom F5 was set to be the fastest production car in the world, but the upgraded Revolution proves it’s good for more than just top speed. Ahead of a 300mph top speed test later this year, the F5 has broken the production car record at its home track, the Circuit of The Americas.

COTA is just 100 miles from Hennessey’s development and production base in Sealy, Texas, and when the company attempted to break the record earlier this year, poor conditions meant that a heat cycle was out of the question. This month’s restoration saw the production-specific F5 achieve a lap of 2:10.90, beating the previous record holder – Czinger’s 21C – by fourteen tenths. For reference, the McLaren P1 broke the record in 2016 with a time almost seven seconds slower.

The record was verified by third parties and RACELOGIC using VBOX satellite telemetry for accuracy. There’s even ‘more left in the car,’ said John Hennessey, with the company eyeing Laguna Seca and even a possible Nürburgring lap later this year once it attempts a 300mph VMAX run…

Although the F5 Revolution has been designed for the track with a full-width carbon fiber wing, new front splitter, dive jets, improved engine cooling and reworked suspension, it retains the same 1817bhp output as its speed-oriented counterpart. up. As a result, Le Mans champion and Hennessey test driver David Donohue hit a top speed of 193.10mph on the course.

Speaking to evo, John Hennessey said: ‘…we wanted the Venom F5 to be a vehicle for taking out big cars. It’s not only designed to go fast and in a straight line at VMAX, but it’s also not just a track car. We wanted to have all the features of the best performing hypercar available.’ Despite wearing Michelin Pilot Sport Cup 2 R road tyres, it got up to 1.59G in cornering and 1.61G under braking, with its set-up optimized by ex-Multi-Multimatic engineer Brian Jones, who managed the Mercedes-AMG record One Nürburgring. thigh.

With the lap record now in the bag, the company now has its sights set on a top speed of 300mph, a figure that would make the F5 the fastest production car in the world. Hennessey said: ‘The process of pushing our American car to the limit makes our team of engineers, designers and technicians the best while also providing an improved product and experience for our customers. We look forward to continuing the journey and pushing the Venom F5 to set new speed records in the future.’

Hennessey has already built and delivered 22 Venom F5s in various configurations, and while the coupe is sold, a ‘few’ build slots for the Roadster and Revolution remain, with prices starting at around $2.7m (c£2.1m).
