South African motorists are set to have their pick of six new cars set to be launched in the country in the coming months, providing a welcome injection of variety to the local market.
The cars, a mix of hatchbacks, SUVs and sedans, come from various manufacturers, ranging from South Korean giant Hyundai to French automaker Renault.
Leading the charge is Hyundai, which will be launching two vehicles in the coming months. The first is the new-generation i20 hatchback, set to debut in late October. The i20 will be powered by a 1.2-litre turbocharged petrol engine, offering up to 88kW of power and 172Nm of torque.
The second vehicle is the Hyundai Tucson, an all-new SUV set to launch in November. The Tucson is powered by a 2.0-litre petrol engine, with up to 135kW of power and 265Nm of torque. It comes with a range of advanced driver assistance systems, such as lane-keeping assist and blind-spot monitoring.
Next up is the Renault Kwid, a small hatchback set to launch in December. The Kwid is powered by a 1.0-litre petrol engine, offering up to 54kW of power and 91Nm of torque. It also comes with a range of advanced driver assistance systems, such as adaptive cruise control and hill-start assist.
Following the Kwid is Kia’s new Ceed hatchback, set to debut in January. The Ceed is powered by a 1.4-litre petrol engine, offering up to 103kW of power and 242Nm of torque. It also comes with a range of driver assistance systems, such as autonomous emergency braking and lane-keeping assist.
The fifth car is the Renault Clio, a small sedan set to launch in February. The Clio is powered by a 1.3-litre petrol engine, offering up to 88kW of power and 205Nm of torque. It also comes with a range of advanced driver assistance systems, such as adaptive cruise control and lane-keep assist.
Finally, there is the Volkswagen T-Cross, a small SUV set to launch in March. The T-Cross is powered by a 1.0-litre turbocharged petrol engine, offering up to 85kW of power and 200Nm of torque. It comes with a range of driver assistance systems, including lane-keep assist and park assist.
