Recall due to software defects for 260,658 GLE & GLS models

Mercedes-Benz currently has to recall 260,658 Mercedes-Benz GLE and GLS models from 2018 to 2023. The reason for this is a software error in the transmission control unit, which can cause engine failure. In Germany, 4,378 cars are affected.

Even if the software bug could cause an engine failure in the affected vehicles, Mercedes-Benz insists that there is no harm to the vehicles’ steering and braking systems. However, the manufacturer has not answered to what extent there may be restrictions regarding power operation. However, to remove the current software bug, car owners must take their car to a workshop for an update. This process should take a total of about 30-45 minutes (KBA: 013605, manufacturer: 5494206).

The transmission control unit software will be updated in the affected vehicles. Affected owners will be contacted in writing. As Mercedes reports, there are currently no reports of any damage to property or people related to the software bug.
