BYD: Again – the next battery plant is planned

Just at the beginning of the week, electric car and battery manufacturer BYD announced a a new 22 GWh battery factory in Taizhou, China to build. As recently announced by the authorities in Guangxi Province, Guangxi Fudi, a subsidiary of the company, plans to build another battery factory in the city of Nanning.

BYD has already planned and built many battery factories through its subsidiaries. The latest Nanning project is expected to provide an annual capacity of 45 GWh on an area of 750,000 square meters. A total of about 10,000 new jobs will be created.

In addition to cells and battery modules, energy storage systems will also be developed there after the planned 2023 completion. The investment is 14 billion yuan ($2 billion) and is expected to generate an annual output value of 26 billion yuan.

BYD has been successful in part because of its early investment in the battery industry. This method will be followed mostly by new battery installations and should pay off. Batteries are not only used in the company’s own vehicles, but are also supplied to competitors. The section is attractive and for 25 euros investors can take paper cheaply. On the other hand, a break above the 200-day line at EUR 28.44 would represent an important technical chart signal.
