For the small electric SUV EX30, Volvo’s sales break records

Volvo has published its results for the first quarter of 2024. Sales of 100% electric models increased by 27% worldwide. The EX30 does well, but it’s not a complete disaster.

Sales boosted by EX30?

Between January and March 2024, Volvo delivered 182,687 vehicles worldwide, an increase of 12% compared to the same period last year. In the first three months of the year, the number of electric models sold increased by 27% to 38,171 units.

In France, the brand is doing better than ever. Volvo achieved a record quarter with 5,948 models delivered (+71.4% compared to 2023). And the French love 100% electric Volvos: these cars represented 60.5% of sales between January and March.

The major growth phase was largely supported by the launch of the new Volvo EX30. The small electric SUV has sold 2,472 units since the beginning of the year. They are ahead of the XC40/EX40 duo with its 1,430 deliveries. Please note, however, that the brand had to quickly deliver EX30s ordered since mid-2023 before March 15, 2024 to benefit from the bonus.

For the full year, Volvo plans to sell 7,000 EX30s. When asked about this success by AutoactuChristophe Duchatelle, sales director of Volvo Car France, notes that “ thanks to this model, the only electric B-SUV on the market, Volvo has expanded its coverage by 40% and reached more private customers. ».

March is a record month for Volvo

The results for March 2024 show that Volvo is on a good course. The brand achieved a historic record worldwide with sales of 78,970 models (+25%), including 39,756 in Europe (+33%). In the Old Continent, 14,967 vehicles delivered were electric (+ 66%). In France, Volvo more than doubled its registrations in March compared to 2023.

The brand delivered 2,975 vehicles, including 1,844 100% electric vehicles (i.e. 62% of total registrations). In this past winter month, Volvo EX30 sold 1,395 copies. This is even better than the result of its big brother: only 688 registrations for the XC40/EX40 duo in France.

But as mentioned above, these first statistics do not give a real overview of the market. We will need to wait for the results of the second quarter so that we can draw a more accurate conclusion about FY30. Globally, the Volvo XC60 remains the brand’s sales leader with 22,402 units sold in March.
