Consumer testing: Hyundai IONIQ 6

Hyundai IONIQ6 looks like from a science fiction movie with its futuristic design. Yet the streamlined sedan drives very well every day, according to the opinions of three test drivers who tested the IONIQ 6 in daily practice over several weeks.

Is the Hyundai IONIQ 6 a practical car? What experience do you get from running the dashboard? What do you think about the driving characteristics? How fast does the battery recharge? These are just a few of the questions three test drivers were asked to objectively evaluate the Hyundai IONIQ 6 for the Kieskeurig.nl EV Endurance Test.

The car was driven extensively by each test driver for a week, under many different conditions, to get a good impression of how it performs. Read all about it in the free Hyundai IONIQ 6 test report.

614 km on a full battery

Due to its impressive refinement, the Hyundai IONIQ 6 is a very impressive car. You have to love that. However, the smooth lines have a purpose: to achieve the lowest possible energy consumption. With a 77.4 kWh battery, the IONIQ 6 has a range of no less than 614 km. The IONIQ 6 also offers exceptional performance on the fast charger. In the price range, very few cars come close to – let alone exceed – the maximum charging speed of 239 kW.

Driving experience

Despite its futuristic design, the IONIQ 6 drives as you’d expect from a modern mid-size electric car. The 229 hp electric motor provides good performance, the chassis is designed for comfort and a taste of dynamics. The three test drivers are very pleased with the driving characteristics of the IONIQ 6. “It’s good to drive around corners, with excellent road holding,” says Ruud.

Active driver assistance systems

Rudy notes that the car is meant to be fun to drive. The driver of the IONIQ 6 can choose from several driving programs. “Switching between different programs works smoothly and easily,” says Eric. The Hyundai IONIQ 6 is fully equipped with safety equipment, and many driver assistance systems take the work out of the driver’s hands. This takes some getting used to by the test drivers: Rudy believes the system to keep the car between road markings works stealthily, but it reacts too hard in certain situations.

Hyundai IONIQ 5 has also been tested. Here you can read the results of the testers.

Get used to working

The almost entirely digital dashboard also takes some getting used to. “The operating system sometimes works slowly,” says Ruud. “Besides, not all the buttons are in the right place.” The three test drivers also agree on the shape of the trunk. “Even though the trunk is big, it’s very short,” Rudy says. “The trunk opening is too small to easily load a stroller chassis or a grocery crate,” he argues.

A great gift

“On balance, the IONIQ 6 is a very good car. However, full equipment comes at a price,” Rudy concludes his assessment. Ruud sees this in a more ambiguous way. He sees himself swapping his beloved diesel for an EV in the future. “The Hyundai IONIQ 6 convinced me the most about this.” He can live well with the sale price of the IONIQ 6. “You’ll get a big reward in return.”

Conclusion: Buying Hyundai IONIQ 6?

Whether you can appreciate the expressive looks of the Hyundai IONIQ 6 is of course a matter of taste. In daily practice, it is more important that the operation of all electronic systems is logical, that you sit comfortably and that the charging of the battery does not take much time. IONIQ 6 excels in these areas. Test drivers are critical about the trunk space, which is very large but also has a small height.
