Entry-Level GMC Hummer EV2 Reportedly Dead By 2025, GMC Calls It “Pure Rumor”

Important takeaways

  • The entry-level GMC Hummer EV2 trim has reportedly been cancelled.

  • The EV2 was targeting a starting price of $80,000.

  • The cheapest trim is now the EV2X, starting at just over $95,000.

  • GMC representatives call the claims “pure speculation” but won’t confirm the status of the EV2

According to recent reports, the entry-level GMC Hummer EV trim has been canceled before it reaches production. Citing unnamed sources, GM authority reports that the more accessible EV2 trim has been “completely scrapped” after it was originally slated to arrive for the 2024 model year in pickup and SUV variants. With no further context provided, we reached out to General Motors for confirmation and received the following response:

“It’s pure speculation and we don’t comment on rumors or future product plans. Hummer’s momentum is picking up, we’re continuing to increase production and sales every day and we’ve had a record Q1.”

Indeed, Hummer sales have risen to record levels – 3,260 were sold last year and 1,668 have already been sold so far in the first three months of 2024. Production has been slow to increase but is now improving.

However, GM’s response does not give us more clarity, and at the time of writing, the developer does not show EV2, so we assume that there is some truth in this report. While the GMC Hummer has never been cheap, it would be even cheaper in this form, with an initial target MSRP of less than $80,000. Now, it’s in the six-figure range across the range, and no one on a budget will ever buy it.

What Was EV2 To Offer?

The GMC Hummer is famous for its CrabWalk feature, its extremely high curb weight, and its monstrous torque claims, but the EV2 would be slightly different in each of these areas. Instead of 1,000 hp, this would produce around 625. Liberty would still be taken in measuring torque at the wheels, but instead of the claimed 11,500 lb-ft, the EV2 claimed 7,400.

Adaptive air suspension, rear axle steering, and CrabWalk would be avoided to keep costs down, and the result would be a lighter car, partly due to the fact that it would only have two engines, but more because it would. they have come up with a small battery pack that gives a range of only 250 miles.

New Entry Level Hummer

With the death of the EV2 (if the rumors prove correct), the cheapest trim is now the EV2X, which gets four-wheel steering and the CrabWalk feature. Unfortunately, instead of an $80,000 entry for ownership, you’re now looking at almost $100k – the EV2X Pickup and SUV both start at $96,550. If you want a three-engine Hummer, EV3X models cost $104,650. Finally, if you opt for the top-of-the-line EV3X Omega (the First Edition has long sold out), you’ll pay $128,005 for the SUV and $148,000 for the pickup. The price difference here is because the first gets a 20-module battery while the second gets a 24-module battery that offers up to 381 miles of range.

All prices here are exclusive of the $2,295 destination charge.
