2024 Buick GL8 PHEV Is GM’s China Minicar With VIP Seating And Air Travel

A lot is happening in the automotive world in China these days, with the 2024 Beijing Auto Show officially opening today, April 25. Both domestic and foreign automakers are attending the auto event, which includes many domestic and international exhibitions. .

We spent our morning bringing you some new stuff, and that list has grown to include the new Buick GL8 Lu Zun. PHEV. As its name implies, it’s a plug-in hybrid version of the compact car that follows the luxury Century in the automaker’s domestic portfolio.

Buick included photos and information on its internal website, and our Mandarin may be a little rusty, but we still managed to find out what the power is. That will be a 1.5L engine with forced induction and an electric motor. The people carrier has 391 hp (397 ps/292 kW) and 428 lb-ft (580 Nm) of torque.

For a small car, the 2024 Buick GL8 PHEV is pretty quick, as it takes 7.8 seconds to push to 62 miles per hour (100 km). With the battery pack fully juiced, it can cruise in neutral for 86 miles (138 km) based on the local driving range.

Safety gizmos are not to be overlooked, as the model features automatic emergency braking, forward collision warning, blind spot warning, lane departure warning, traffic sign recognition, and cruise control. Remote parking assistance will make life easier for its users.

Aside from the beefed-up powertrain, the GL8 PHEV has a few styling tweaks, too. For example, it has a split signature at the front, as the main pillars and daytime running lights were separated. The upper grille was also updated, and the lower one is as large as before. Buick also gave it new taillights, chrome accents, 18-inch alloys, and more.

Since we’ve started talking about the equipment list, we can also tell you that it’s extensive. For example, the people carrier has a standard front sunroof, electric gates, Nappa leather upholstery, ventilated and heated front seats, multi-zone climate control, advanced lighting system environment, etc

The second row can be equipped with Aviation or VIP seats, sports power adjustment, heating, ventilation, and massage functions, and this makes the GL8 PHEV equal to carrying people and a small car driven by a car. It has three rows of seats, a compartment that can cool or heat things, a wireless charging pad, a rear seat entertainment system, folding tray tables, an optional panoramic roof for those sitting in the back, and so on.

Buick’s latest addition to the GL8 family is affordable for what it offers, as it starts at 359,900 yuan, which equates to around $50,000 at today’s exchange rate. Would you like GM to sell this model in our market?
