  • The GMC Hummer EV 2 was expected to launch with about 625 hp.
  • CarScoops has reached out to GM seeking further clarification on the recent reports.
  • Current Hummer EV and SUV Pickup models start at $96,550.

A new entry-level trim for the GMC Hummer EV Pickup and SUV priced at around $80,000 has reportedly been dropped, just before the model is expected to hit the market.

GM has been developing a more affordable base version of the Hummer EV, known simply as the ‘2’. It was expected to borrow some features from the pricier 2X, including its dual-motor powertrain, but was meant to hit dealerships with fewer features and a smaller battery pack.

However, reports from GM authority claims that GMC has killed plans for this version. The website did not provide any sources for its information. When contacted by CarBuzz, a GM spokesman described the report as “pure speculation.” The spokesperson further stated that the automaker “does not comment on rumors of future product plans.”

CarScoops has reached out to GM seeking further clarification on any potential new Hummer EV Pickup and SUV.

The so-called EV 2 variant of the all-electric Hummer was expected to start at around $80,000. It was estimated to have a power output of 625 hp and 7,400 lb-ft (10,033 Nm) of torque, figures that, while respectable, are lower than the current model’s 1,000 hp and 11,500 lb-ft (15,591 Nm).

Additionally, GMC may have removed certain special features such as adaptive air suspension, CrabWalk mode, and rear axle steering from the current Hummer EV lineup. Although these features are desirable, they also contribute to higher costs.

If the 2 trim level is indeed reduced, prices for the entry-level GMC Hummer EV2X Pickup and SUV models would remain at $96,550. For those who want enhanced performance, the EV3X option with three electric motors is still available, starting at $104,650.
