GMC Beats Base Hummer EV, Proposed to Be Cheapest

GMC launched the Hummer EV pickup lineup in October 2021, and an entry-level single-engine version was part of the plan. The entry-level version was supposed to launch sometime in the spring of 2024. However, GMC bosses seem to have changed their minds.

Three and a half years ago, GMC launched the 1st Edition with a starting price of $110,000. The release sold out immediately. The EV3X followed in summer 2022, starting at $99,995. In the spring of 2023, it was the turn of the EV2X to join the ranks with an MRSP of $89,995.

Customers were expecting the entry-level, EV2, this time, without the “X,” to drop sometime in the spring of 2024. It would still feature a dual-motor configuration but be supported by a 400-volt electrical architecture instead of the trim’s 800-volt the top.

It should also have received a smaller battery pack instead of the 246 capacity unit kWh but only 212 kWh usable. The new unit should have stored enough energy for a range of up to 250 miles (402 km). Additionally, the standard equipment list had to be reduced to justify the reduced price.

In 2021, this version was supposed to start at $79,995. However, the spring of 2024 has come, and there is still no sign of the long-awaited GMC Hummer. EV. GM authority he quotes unnamed sources that indicate that “there will be no Model 2 for the 2025 model year“out of 2X.

Production of the GMC Hummer EV2 was reportedly initially delayed and eventually canceled. Therefore, the trim will not be available for the pickup truck, nor for the SUV. At least, they won’t be here in 2025. So, General Motors will stick with the 2X and 3X trims for pickup and. SUV.

And it seems that GMC doesn’t really need to make any changes to the lineup that comes out of GM’s Factory Zero production plant in Michigan. There were 1,668 customers who ordered a Hummer EV, Pickup or SUV, in the first quarter of 2024.

That represents an 83,300 percent increase from the same period last year when GMC sold only two units. There were 825 customers who went for pickup and 1,203 who chose SUV.

Currently, the entry level in the pickup lineup is the EV2X Pickup, which starts at $98,845. At the front of the lineup is the EV3X Omega Edition Pickup, with exclusive Neptune BlueMatte paint and the Extreme Off-Road Package, starting at $150,295.

An entry-level SUV can be had for the same price as a pickup, but the EV3 Omega Edition SUV is a $130,300 affair.
