GMC is going hands-on with its new 2025 GMC Yukon, calling the redesigned SUV the next step in the brand’s redesigned SUV lineup. The refreshed 2025 Yukon will be the next GMC SUV launch following the all-new Acadia at dealerships this spring. Earlier this year, GMC announced plans to expand its brand into more international markets. The 2025 Yukon will lead the brand’s rollout in Australia, New Zealand and China. The photo shows the corner of the front fascia of the 2025 GMC Yukon AT4.

The photo features the 2025 GMC Yukon AT4 and shows its updated front fascia, updated headlight and redesigned grille implementation. The AT4 trim is GMC’s upgraded off-road package. After being introduced on the Sierra 1500 five years ago, it quickly became GMC’s most popular package. Although GMC isn’t releasing many details, we can learn a lot about the 2025 Yukon from what’s planned for its sibling, the 2025 Chevrolet Tahoe. Note that the GMC version is usually loaded with more luxurious finishes and fewer bells and whistles, but the mechanics of generating electricity are often similar.

What the GMC Yukon Will Share with the 2025 Chevrolet Tahoe

As I reported last November, the 2025 Chevrolet Tahoe will have a lot of new technology and I would expect the 2025 Yukon to have similar improvements and updates. One of the first things drivers will notice is that the new SUVs will have large 17.7-inch diagonal infotainment screens. The new technology will allow customers to view a network of cameras that show the interior and exterior of their vehicle remotely using special OnStar programs. The cameras can also record events such as accidents and thefts. The new cameras could revolutionize car safety.

New Towing Features

Chevrolet is adding more technology to make towing or trailering easier. I’m sure the GMC and Yukon will have similar towing power. A Max Trailering package will be available and select trims will include a high-capacity controller with cooling fan, integrated trailer brake control, Hitch View 5, Hill Decent Control 5, Blind Zone Steering Assist with Trailering 5, and Monitoring Software. I would expect the Yukon to have the same new technology as what the Tahoe offers.

  • Trailer Tire Health, which helps prevent trailer tire wear.
  • Forward Lane Indicator, which helps drivers navigate their trailer with guides in Landscape View to show trailer width and trailer lane. When turn signals are activated, the guides will show the driver an estimated turning lane for the vehicle and trailer.
  • Boat Ramp Assist, which helps customers access a checklist and step-by-step instructions to prepare for towing, launching and recovering a boat.
  • Trailer Navigation, which calculates routes based on trailer size using built-in Google Maps.
  • The 2025 Tahoe continues to offer a maximum towing range of 8,400 pounds. I would expect the GMC Yukon to have at least the same.

Will GMC Offer The New Diesel Engine That Chevrolet Has?

Chevy has a refined second-generation Duramax 3.0L inline-six turbo-diesel, which delivers more power for greater confidence on the road – especially when recording. It is mated to a 10-speed automatic transmission and is offered on all retail models, including the Z71 for the first time. It will be interesting to see if GMC also offers the same Duramax.

Previously introduced in the Silverado 1500, the new diesel engine is rated at 305 horsepower and 495 lb.-ft. of peak torque, an increase of 10 percent and 7.6 percent, respectively, over the current diesel engine’s 277 horsepower and 460 lb.-ft. of torque.

The 5.3L gas V-8 remains the standard engine for most Chevrolet Tahoe packages. The 6.2L V-8 is standard on the High Country and available on the RST, Z71 and Premier. The new diesel engine will be available in 2025 after the first launch. I would expect the GMC Yukon to offer both a V-8 and possibly a diesel version.

New Security Technology

Chevrolet has a new sensor that can detect certain types of motion in large SUVs, which can help detect if a passenger is left in the back of the vehicle. I would expect that kind of potentially life-saving technology to be shared with GMC.

“We want to help families by introducing a feature that can help them remember their valuable cargo in the back seats,” explains Tricia Morrow, head of Global Safety Technology Strategy at GM. “This feature is a testament to GM’s commitment to developing innovative safety technology.”

The 2025 GMC Yukon will be revealed later in 2024. Pricing and other details will be announced closer to the actual launch.
