GMSV begins testing the GMC Yukon in Oz

GENERAL Motors Special Vehicles (GMSV) has released images of the right-hand drive 2025 GMC Yukon being tested on Australian roads, just days after teaser images were released in the US.

Suggesting the redesign process is going well, General Motors Australia and New Zealand managing director Jess Bala said the new Yukon has already been on Australian soil for several months.

“The GMC Yukon has been in Permoso for a few months as we begin the rebuilding process,” he said.

“It’s great that another vehicle joins the GMSV line-up, which has a full eight-seater and offers excellent towing capacity.”

While Ms Bala did not confirm the exact Australian details and pricing of the Yukon, early intelligence on the model suggests the Denali grade offered Down Under will have one of two V8 petrol or turbo diesel engines, a 10-speed automatic transmission, and optional all-wheel drive.

Additionally, US spec sheets suggest that the Yukon can offer a braked towing capacity of up to 3810kg (in two-wheel drive, full comparative details listed below), giving rivals such as the Nissan Patrol and Toyota LandCruiser 300 Series a run for their money. really for them. money.

“Production of the car after the redesign is progressing very well, and we are on track to deliver the new model to customers in the first half of 2025,” added Ms Bala.

“Now that the wraps are done, we’ll be able to begin further on-road development, right-hand drive development and testing.”

Benchmarking the Yukon against the best-selling Toyota LandCruiser 300 Series we find differences that match the vast majority of American models.

Against that belt, the Yukon measures 5179mm in length (+199mm), 2045mm in width (+65mm), and up to 1958mm in height (+8mm). The Yukon rides on a 2946mm wheelbase, beating the LC300 by 96mm.

Unconfirmed, but still likely for Australia, is a longer wheelbase version called the Yukon XL. The model measures 3406mm between the axles, giving it 460mm more width than the best-selling LandCruiser.

While offering the same dimensions on the outside, the Yukon also stacks up well where standard equipment is concerned. The model is available with hill descent control and hill start assist, magnetic cruise control and air springs, and a full complement of driver assistance and safety technologies.

Other tech features include a 12.0-inch instrument panel with a 15.0-inch head-up display, a 10.2-inch infotainment array with wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto connectivity, 18-speaker Bose audio, and a display of high quality 360 degree environment. camera.

Off-road geometry sees the current version of the Yukon between 203mm and 254mm of ground clearance, between 24.5 and 34.5 degrees of approach angle, between 18.5 and 22.0 degrees of breakaway angle, and between 20.5 and 22.5 degrees of departure angle. Water clearance is listed at 815mm.

Cargo volume is said to be 722 litres, 2056 liters or 3480 liters depending on the seating configuration.

“The Premoso team is doing a great job and the process of rebuilding the right-hand drive car is going well,” added Ms Bala.

“We look forward to finding customers in this first product brought to you by GMSV.”

GMC (US) shared a preview of its updated 2025 Yukon in top AT4 trim last week, with the model making its North American debut this spring, right after the launch of the all-new Acadia.

The photo features GMC’s 2025 Yukon AT4 sporting a refreshed front fascia with an updated headlight profile, and a redesigned grille – all features expected to appear on the Aussie-spec Yukon Denali.

Commenting on the updated Yukon, General Motors USA said, “2024 marks the fifth anniversary of GMC’s popular AT4 trim. Since the launch of the Sierra 1500 in 2019, the AT4 lineup has established itself as the industry standard for high-performance off road”.

“This year also marks the 25thth a reminder of GMC’s Denali sub-brand, which debuted with the 1999 Yukon Denali concept.

It’s a good year for GMC which has announced plans to expand its global presence. The US brand will use Yukon to lead its rollout in all markets including Australia, China and New Zealand.

More details on the MY25 Yukon are expected later in the year.
