The Jaguar F-Pace SVR is currently the only model in the range to carry this note. Although sports F-Type coupe in the higher version it gives more power, its more brutal version is already history. And our SUV? He underwent facelift and is doing well. Not to say – very well.
While many manufacturers are thinking about withdrawing their cylinders or stop selling “fat” versions in Europe, Jaguar adheres to its principles. So it still offers its V8 and superchargerlike the Jeep on the flag Trackhawk. Jaguar F-Pace SVR, however, is a slightly different story, which I will try to bring you closer.
The F-Pace SVR is a cat with character
Jaguar’s five-liter heart produces a maximum of 550 hp and 700 Nm, but they are not the most impressive numbers. They are, of course, a derivative of the use of a large mechanical compressor. This, however, offers little more than promising technical data or actual acceleration times.
Yes, the Jaguar F-Pace SVR does a hundred in the same 4 seconds. In the catalog and on the road, which I was able to measure with the Racelogic device (exact measurement from the spot, without the 1ft print). 0-200 km / h is a matter of about 14 seconds, which is also a very good result. But that’s not what it’s about.
The direct connection of the compressor to the engine provides exceptional gas responsethat you will not find even with the most efficient turbocharged competitive system. Pressing the pedal with your right foot immediately presses into the seat. Like a car with a naturally aspirated engine.
Only with great power. And that feeling continues until the throttle is closed. So we have everything we need here. Power “down”, great response to the gas and pleasant power to the end. In addition, there is an efficient 8-speed automatic, which I have nothing to complain about.
The Jaguar F-Pace SVR roars and groans
This is not the end of the advantages of the Jaguar engine. Thanks to the lack of turbocharging, it has never been deprived of its characteristic, natural sound. The exhaust sounds great at low and high revs. In addition, there is a common “groan” of the compressor, which is practically inaudible during normal driving.
At loud volume, it feels very tight, just like in the aforementioned Jeep. Unlike a turbocharger, a mechanical compressor is great when you press the gas even at idle speed. And when you lift the bonnet, you’ll hear even more clearly that the Jaguar F-Pace SVR is alive.
Not that great Alfa Romeo Stelvio Quadrifoglio I suddenly lost my sight. Or that the Mercedes-AMG GLC 63 could hide away with its twin-charged V8. None of these things. Well … the GLC 63 can hide. At least with the stock exhaust system.
So what is wrong with this engine that they want to replace?
Thread. Seriously. For several days of testing, I did not find a single flaw in it. It sounds great when you need it, and for a gentle ride, it’s not a hindrance at all. It is for each of our orders, but it does not require special “tame” skills. He drinks an incalculable amount of oil while driving aggressively, but that is also the domain of every competitor.
When driving normally, it also burns as well, even compared to competitors with a V6 or R6 under the hood. And at the same time, it beats a little more BMW X5 Mwhich can envy Jaguar character. Trust me, they are two different worlds not only in terms of style.
|Fuel consumption:||Jaguar F-Pace SVR|
|at 100 km / h||8.5 l / 100 km|
|at 120 km / h||10.2 l / 100 km|
|at 140 km / h||12.5 l / 100 km|
|in the city||15.7 l / 100 km|
And at this point we reach the most hopeless places. The aforementioned X5 M uses a turbocharged 4.4 V8 unit, which is slowly coming under the hood of the British car concern. I don’t know how long a fast JLR SUV will leave the factory like this. Perhaps this is one of the last opportunities to “test” a British compressor SUV.
The chassis of the F-Pace SVR is a successful “combination”.
Driving the Jaguar F-Pace SVR, despite its lofty driving position, is pure joy. The steering works naturally and precisely, with well-matched power steering. The body and suspension give the feeling of high structural rigidity, but I could easily drive this car every day.
I would describe the car’s behavior in corners as something exactly between the aforementioned Stelvio Quadrifoglio and the Grand Cherokee Trackhawk. While the Alpha slides well “sideways”, the Jeep seemed to be constantly trying to control the big engine, “playing” the torque between the axles. The Jaguar wants to be great and has a lot of grip, but it allows a good glide that matches its character.
The F-Pace is not as extravagant as the Stelvio or X3 /X4 M Racing. It is more elegant and understated, although it likes to surprise. Personally, I think that it is the best in its class that combines the qualities of excitement and driving with the pleasure of a smooth ride. It is more complete. And it is really effective in braking.
The interior of the F-Pace SVR continues
Along with the modernization, we got a new, well-placed one 11.4 inch touch screen. It works quickly, it takes time to get used to, but it does not cause any serious problems during operation. Along with the multimedia system, we have a nice and legible digital clock on board.
The first violin, however, is played with sports seats and an integrated headrest, which not only holds well, but also looks very good. By the way, I have never seen such a well-stitched “back” on a “bucket”. When it comes to their convenience, opinions are divided. I didn’t complain and thoroughly enjoyed them. Michał Kaleta said that the backrest was too short.
In addition, there is a lot of space in the interior, the trunk is large and the finish is very high. The build is more impressive than Alfa, BMW and Mercedes, not to mention Jeep. Ambient lighting is smart and gives the interior a pleasant atmosphere. The optional 17-speaker Meridian sounds great and the list of possible options is long. For example, you can order a symbolic sunroof. Proven – it’s fun and works seamlessly.
The tested car costs more than 600 thousand zlotys
According to the measurements received, it is exactly PLN 604 150. However, prices have changed, which should not be surprising. Basically, the Jaguar F-Pace SVR costs about PLN 571,800, and the price of the tested unit currently exceeds PLN 630,000. zlotys. This is a very large amount of money, almost 100,000. higher than similar prices, for example the BMW X3 M Competition. The Alfa is slightly cheaper than the BMW, and the Mercedes is more expensive.
But really we should treat Jaguar differently. Of these three, only Mercedes can boast of a V8 engine, which, in my opinion, is far from the character of the Jaguar unit. Besides, the F-Pace SVR impressed me the most out of the four. It’s a feeling of being in touch with something “semi-high class”. And at the same time it showed itself from the better side than the more expensive BMW X5 M Competition.
If you’re looking for a practical and fast SUV with character and class, and at the same time a certain amount of uniqueness, the Jaguar F-Pace SVR hits the spot. It is a refined and well-made car that perfectly combines the features of a universal car.
