Lamborghini Huracan: STO, Sterrato, Spyder and Tecnica in Test

Lamborghini Huracan: STO, Sterrato, Spyder and Tecnica in Test

First and foremost is the V10. The current 5.2 liter, which was already in the last years of its life Gallardo was used. About ten years ago it was launched with 610 hp. So far, not much has changed. Although there was a small upgrade to 640 hp after a few years, the basic characteristics remained the same for many years: an emotional cream engine with an incredibly linear power delivery that only a regular engine can do.

Because the turbo punches from the bottom right, but somehow always feels like it’s running out of air from the top. A vacuum cleaner, on the other hand, develops more and more power as speed increases, which equals driving resistance, which also increases. So the vacuum cleaner does not break the motor of the driver, but instead demands more and more. That “he wants to be turned” feeling comes from exactly that.

Headroom looks worse in the Spyder – at least with the roof closed.

We have to keep reminding ourselves that in this tour, after all, the successor should get a turbo-charged eight-cylinder with hybrid support this year. Puritans will still cover their faces, but most of the customers, who care more about outward appearance than inner values, probably don’t.

Maximum power is 8000 revolutions

Driving the car feels magical, on the other hand, enjoying each of the 8000 revolutions until maximum power is reached. Shifting is done through seven speedsDoppelkupplungsgetriebeThe Gallardo was the last time there was a manual switch. Large paddles are placed on the steering column, and the rest of the controls are not modern – even if Lamborghini recently saved its long-time favorites with a refreshed infotainment system.

Relationship with parent company Audi cannot be denied: mirror adjustment, steering wheel buttons, door lock – as well as turn signal control like on a motorcycle. Anyone who is lucky enough to get one Hurricane We put everything together quickly and for us it’s always an aha moment.

Even in this cold morning when we ride the white Sterrato with its red and black details. Three other journalists from England, France and Spain are traveling with us. In addition, Lambo journalist Enrico, who leads the expedition with a mechanic in the accompanying Urus-S and acts as a photo vehicle if necessary.

The first stage takes us to the Moto GP race in Mugello, where we want to stop to take a quick photo and the first car exchange. Unfortunately, we are not allowed to go on the route itself because we don’t have much time left. We have about 500 kilometers ahead of us, which we take first on the Autostrada, because it is better not to torture your way through the city through Bologna.

Lamborghini Whirlwind Road Trip

A typical picture of Tuscany: a lonely country road, a cypress road – in the silence ten cylinders roar their song in the botany.

But after a few kilometers the obnoxious vibration starts to annoy us. It’s good that we have that Navi it suggests a winding alternative route that we cross the border of Emilia-Romagna to Tuscany and we are also greeted by beautiful paths lined with cypress trees that are very common here. At least I think it’s a pine – as far as plants go, I’m glad I can tell the tree from the flower…

Despite our pleasant detour and a few photo stops, we are not the last to arrive at the convention center. Two French YouTubers with their STO arrived at their destination a little later than us. And it is this floor that we occupy now. When on the road Dirt road With its knobby tires and military add-on parts being the last of the special editions, the STO 2021 was the first to enjoy. It was the last track vehicle in the Huracán series. Empty interior, everything is filled with carbon fiber, its own aerodynamics – that’s what attracted us in the main test.

First we go on a short photo tour with all four models, then we’re back on the highway. Before that, however, we discover a familiar place name: Sant’Agata – not Bolognese, but Sant’Agata Mugello. But in Italy a number of churches are dedicated to Saint Agatha – and therefore they are often dedicated.

Past Florence we head southwest along winding country roads towards Volterra. Located on a ridge in the middle of a hilly area, it is considered one of the most beautiful towns in Tuscany. The ride alone is a spectacle, especially in such good weather and with a 640 hp, rear-wheel drive. But the historic old town and the ubiquitous alabaster crafts are also well worth seeing.

Fortunately, the gas explosions did not cause the plaster to crumble from the historic walls

And now we have this old town all to ourselves with our four Huracans. While our colleagues go to eat, we left the photographer Kevin for an hour, putting 2,530 hp for a few great group photos and entertaining the young and the old at the same time Because during lunch a small school bus enters the piazza every ten minutes, and also the city workers from the city hall and the nearby police station are on their lunch break.

Of course, no one misses this – they walk more or less near the cars, almost all of them take pictures, some whisper, some ask interesting questions. What does that cost? How fast is it going? Can you see the engine? Answers: at least 229,709 euros (Method); between 260 (Sterrato) and 325 km/h (Evo Spyder) and: Yes, of course, you can even hear the ten cylinders. Fortunately, the gas explosions did not cause the plaster to crumble from the historic walls.

After strengthening, we continue in the Evo Spyder. The only “regular” Huracán left, as the coupé was discontinued in the middle of last year. Spyder now also produces 640 hp, always comes to customers with all-wheel drive and is at the forefront in terms of sound. Even with the cloth cap closed, because at the same time it began to shrink. Another disadvantage of the Spyder comes to light: headroom. If this works so well in the coupe, at 1.96 meters I can no longer sit upright.

But now things have to move a little faster because we are already very behind schedule. At the rest stop we switch to the Tecnica – our last derivative of this trip and somehow my personal favorite in the Huracán range. Not only because it is cheaper, but also because it has been the most successful way to recreate the series and it is more fun to drive.
