Major recall due to poorly welded axle

Specialist websites Rappel Conso and Safety Gate have reported major recalls on some Peugeot 208s due to manufacturing problems. Initiated on April 5, the recall in question urges owners to check if their vehicle is affected by the defect, which is an insufficiently welded rear axle.

This manufacturing problem has been seen on cars assembled in Morocco. It’s bad enough to require a recall, as it can cause cracks over time, putting drivers’ safety at risk. Furthermore, the failure of this axle can endanger the driving of the vehicle, increasing the risk of accidents such as skidding, leaving the lane and losing control.

Consumer Recall and Safety Gate have released details of the vehicles affected by this defect. Peugeot 208 owners can check the effects of this recall by entering the VIN code (17-digit identification number) on the official Peugeot website. Models sold between January 18 and March 14, 2023 with approval code U e22007/460639*21-*23 are the ones recalled. Affected owners are advised to contact their dealer as soon as possible for confirmation and repair of the defect.

This problem reminds us of the importance of dealing with major technical failures to avoid any incidents. This is not the first time the auto industry has recalled vehicles for manufacturing defects. Therefore, both parties have an important role in disseminating this information and coordinating reform actions across Europe.
