Maserati MC20 (2024): Test, Price, Configuration

Almost 20 years later the story of MC12 and half a century after the fantastic Bora, Maserati Corse is back with a true supercar: the MC20! But with a range that in recent decades has included GTs, sedans and even diesel SUVs, will the Italian manufacturer still manage to hit the bull’s eye right from the start? We can already reveal the answer: despite all these years of absence, we can say with certainty that Maserati has not forgotten how to convince the purists!

Gentle and modest … but an attractive design!

Despite its name, the Maserati MC20 is not a direct descendant of the MC12. We would rather call it a spiritual successor. All Italian divas may share a mid-engine, but at 4.67 m long, 1.97 m wide and just 1.22 m tall, the MC20 is more compact than its ancestor. Its design is also more subtle, modest and rounded than that of the MC12, but also than many Italian supercars, especially those from Maranello or Sant’Agata Bolognese. However, that does not mean that the Maserati MC20 is not attractive or convincing! It still turns heads, both while driving and at a standstill, when you can admire the carbon fiber of its gull-wing doors in detail, as well as the triangular air vents in its Plexiglas rear window.

Disappointing interiors?

Unfortunately, some of the Italian charm is lost when you climb inside. The dashboard is as small as they come, with a 10.25-inch digital instrument cluster in front of the driver. The central touchscreen is also 10.25 inches and comes straight from… the electric Fiat 500! It’s not really worth getting a big car for a quarter of a million euros… But the shared technology might not be a bad idea at all, because the screen is easy to use (despite the small keys) and it connects wirelessly to Android Auto or Apple CarPlay. In addition, with these displays and cheap buttons, other materials and finishes are worthy of a real supercar! You can even see a hint of the carbon chassis on the center console. And in the middle of the console there is another dial, which you set the driving mode and suspension strength.

More practical than you can imagine

As befits a supercar, the Maserati MC20 is definitely a two-seater. But the Italian brand has tried to make it more or less practical. To begin with, there is a front trunk with a volume of 47 liters. This narrow space is just big enough to store documents on board and some small things. However, the Maserati MC20 has a second trunk of more than 100 liters at the back, near the engine. The space is more practical, but it is better not to put your frozen meals in it, because they will be heated immediately during the trip home …

The beating heart of Neptune

That power source in the middle of the rear of the Italian supercar also has a name: Nettuno! It’s a 3-liter biturbo V6 using Formula 1 technology, but without any electric assistance. The engine develops no less than 630 hp and 730 Nm of torque, which is transmitted to the rear wheels through an efficient 8-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission. This allows the Maserati MC20 to accelerate from 0-100 km/h in just 2.9 seconds! Performance that allows the Italian beauty to compete with hybrid supercars such as the Ferrari 296 GTB and the McLaren Artura. And with a top speed of 325 km / h, the MC20 is even a few kilometers faster than the Porsche 911 Turbo. Just saying that there is no doubt that the Modena factory has built a real supercar!

Never fear…

First of all, Maserati MC20 has a (very) sporty temperament, even more than, for example, Porsche 911. We can call it Alpine A110 on steroids. But that doesn’t mean he comes off as a scary person. A few turns and acceleration are enough to gain confidence as a happy person behind the wheel. In addition to the excellent support of the comfortable bucket seats, you also have an excellent view in front, but also in the rear thanks to the digital center mirror. It’s also easy to gradually discover its power and strength through four driving modes: GT, Sport, Corsa and Wet.

… but always very strong!

Thanks to the very low seating position, you always feel behind the wheel of the kart, regardless of the selected program. The Maserati MC20 responds quickly to acceleration, changes in direction and input from the brake pedal. You’d never suspect that the supercar is sporting 1.5 tonnes, it feels incredibly efficient and fast, even faster than you’d expect with its 630 hp! And after the elevation of the adjustment column, you just have to pull the big right carbon pad – which is mounted on the steering column, and not on the steering wheel itself – to push it further. The event itself. There is no doubt about it: the Maserati MC20 is a supercar with a real temperament, which is largely thanks to the Nettuno in the back.

Supercar for every day

Fortunately, the Maserati MC20 isn’t just designed to have fun on a circuit or a closed track. Turning a button on the center console is enough, as the name of one of its driving modes suggests, to transform the supercar into a GT – or close. Thanks to its less rigid carbon chassis, Maserati has been able to install a more flexible suspension. It remains stiff, even in GT mode, but is smooth enough for everyday use on any type of road surface. Something that also works in Game mode, where you can swipe and turn a button to soften the suspension. We’re again comparing it to a French mid-engine sports car, but the Maserati MC20 can be used in everyday traffic.

Price Maserati MC20

To buy a Maserati MC20, you must have at least 254,050 euros in your savings account. And that means you only have the basic version… So this price can increase without any effort, especially if you go to the Fuoriserie department of the brand, where all your wishes can come true. And if that’s not enough, there are also other tuners such as Mansory that offer the exclusive Maserati MC20 series, for those who want something more extraordinary… For lovers of fresh air, there is also a convertible version of the Maserati MC20, the Cielo, which is priced starting price of 289,650 euros.

High judgment

The Maserati MC20 drives like a go-kart, but it’s never intimidating and will even give you confidence behind the wheel very quickly if you’re one of the lucky ones who can afford one. In addition to its irresistible power characteristics, this Italian beauty is also used every day thanks to its different driving modes, but also thanks to its rear trunk, which is surprisingly practical … for a supercar. And all with a slim, modest line that is attractive and attractive!
