Mercedes EQS 2024 | AutoGuide

Even more than cars with a combustion engine, EVs are changing almost constantly – although this is often invisible, because it’s about software updates or new batteries. A similar update is now also available for the Mercedes EQS, the first electric Mercedes to be based on a specific platform when it was launched in 2021. The Germans also took the opportunity to expand customization options through the Manufaktur program.

Mercedes EQS 2024: what changes?

  • Battery and charger: The net capacity of the battery pack for EQS models increases from 108.4 to 118 kWh. DC fast charging is possible, as before, up to 200 kW.
  • Driving range: a larger battery logically also means additional driving range. For example, Mercedes now promises a WLTP range of 799 kilometers for the EQS 450 4Matic, some 85 kilometers more than before. The rear-wheel drive 450+ performs better, with a driving range of up to 822 km. Please note that in the 450 4Matic the front electric motor only helps when necessary for performance or safety.
  • Towing capacity: The Mercedes EQS can tow up to 1,700 kg (and up to 750 kg without brakes), the same as the EQS SUV.
  • Design: the update also gives the Mercedes EQS a slightly modified nose: from now on, chrome-plated pipes pass through a black lacquer panel that serves as a ‘radiator grill’. The three-pointed star then moves to the top of the nose, as was the case in the past, which should give the car a more elegant look.
  • Driver assistance systems: Mercedes-Benz is launching the ‘Automatic Lance Change’ (ALC) function in Europe with the EQS update. This allows EQS to automatically change lanes on two-lane highways. This option is active between 80 and 140 km/h and is integrated into the Distronic cruise control in all EQS 2024 models. In this way, the car can independently pass slower vehicles, without intervention from the driver.
  • Comfort: Mercedes improved comfort in the rear, with more control options and additional equipment in the Rear Comfort Package. This includes fully adjustable rear seats that can be reclined up to 38 degrees, and a folding footrest.
  • More equipment as usual: the large MBUX Hyperscreen is from now on always included in the price, and you no longer have to pay extra for the heat pump in EQS.
