The Mitsubishi Colt is the successor to the Renault Clio (as expected)

It’s bad for Renault, but the big question at the launch of the Clio was ‘what is Mitsubishi going to do about this?’. Because the new ASX is like the constant partner of the Captur. The new Mitsubishi Colt is also an exact replica, but with a different logo. And that’s even more amazing for Clio. Good to know: Renault and Mitsubishi are part of the same consortium. So the design is not stolen, but borrowed for beauty.

Renault Clio recently went under the knife for a new look. Renault also developed new daytime running lights on the front bumper; those are the two interesting features at the corners of the front bumper. These are two half logos of Renault (and then half left to right and vice versa). So it’s little wonder that the new Mitsubishi Colt runs on Renault’s new design language; the car has large Renault logos on the front bumper.

So what’s different about the Mitsubishi Colt?

As little as possible. If Mitsubishi changed too much, the car would have to be re-approved for public road use. And that is expensive. By putting a little modification, they can pass the so-called homologation. That’s why the modification retains the grille, tailgate markings (which are now written) and steering wheel markings.

The engine is also the same as in the Renault Clio. The basic engine is 1.0 liter three-cylinder with 65 hp. Then there are three cylinders with a turbo and 90 hp and the biggest engine is 1.6 liters with hybrid technology. This has 145 hp and a consumption (on paper) of 4.5 liters per 100 km. The chassis is also probably set the same.

Prices are not yet known, but in the case of Captur and ASX the price is not different. Which of the two is cheaper depends on which version and option you want. At least with Mitsubishi you get a 5 year warranty. Consider prices starting at 23,000 euros for the Colt. Sales will begin in October this year.
