New Kia EV5 (2024): arrival imminent!

Kia will soon support its EV6 and EV9 with a third electric model, the EV5 family SUV. This future Renault Scénic and Peugeot e-3008 rival never came so close to getting here!

After the compact EV6 and the large 7-seater SUV EV9, Kia’s 100% electric “EV” range will soon be supported by a third model: the EV5.

With the EV5, Kia is attacking the European heart of the range

With its height of 4.62 meters, The EV5 will be at the top of the C-SUV segment. Generous dimensions that will allow it to offer plenty of space on board, with multiple seating configurations to accommodate up to 6 passengers.
This can constitute an advantage in an already busy segment, especially for Volkswagen ID.4 et Renault Scenic E-Tech, and of course the all-new Peugeot e-3008. The brand first unveiled it in concept form during its EV Days in March 2023, then in the final version at the Chengdu Auto Show (China), in August.
Now we know all the technical details! Three versions are planned: Standard, with 64.2 kWh battery and 160 kW (218 hp) engine front, Long Range, with the same engine, but a more generous 88 kWh battery.
And finally Long Distance 4X4, where the addition of a second motor of 70 kW (95 hp) on the rear axle not only brings the total power to 230 kW (313 hp), but also ensures the necessary transmission.
Freedom in the WLTP cycle rotates between 400 km in the standard version, and 550 km in the long distance version with one engine.

Its first copies destined for export left the factory

This EV5 is an important model for Kia, which wants to quickly expand its electric range, while it waits the upcoming EV4 and EV3. Important for China, because Kia sold just 80,000 cars in the country last year (compared to 564,000 in 2016, according to Car News China), weakened by increasingly fierce domestic competition.
It is not for nothing that the only EV5 production facility was in the country, in Yangcheng. Kia is relying heavily on this model to relaunch itself in the country. But not only!
The hope that EV5 has internationally, especially in Europe and the United States, is just as big. The brand plans to sell one million electric cars a year by 2026, then 1.6 million by 2030!
The EV5 will be at the heart of this strategy, through its positioning as a versatile, more practical family SUV than the EV6, more accessible than EV9. Good news, it’s coming!
So far limited to the Chinese market only, EV5 begins production for foreign marketsthe first copy omitted these 1 chainsit is April, ready for shipping. So it’s only a matter of time before we see the first copies of it arriving in Europe…

Its prices have not yet been announced, but it is expected to be around €40,000, or €30,000 less than its EV9 sibling.
