Nissan Juke (2024): Test, Price, Configuration

Nissan Juke is a special case within a special family of crossovers and SUVs. The first generation was launched in 2010, making it one of the first premium urban commuters you could find. To make it stand out even more, Nissan gave it a round face and three-shelf headlights. A style characteristic that was adopted by the second generation, which we can discover for the first time in 2019 and which was implemented as a hybrid in 2022. Now, in 2024, the second Juke has already completed five years. So it’s a good time to refresh a little.

We weren’t just talking about the first generation Nissan Juke to strike a nostalgic chord. With the facelift of the first Juke, its color scheme was expanded with a bright yellow tint. And now Nissan has repeated the trick again by refreshing this second generation!

That’s the biggest styling change that will be released in the 2024 model year. In addition to this new color, you have to dig through the press release to find out what’s new. There we read that there are also new rims from 17 to 19 inches and the new N-Sport version, otherwise we would leave this paragraph empty. So the small SUV retains its round face, with its round headlights and its narrow lines. Love it or hate it, but you can’t say the 2024 Juke is unrecognizable in traffic…

Can there still be yellow?

Fortunately, progress in the interior is more visible. At first glance we see that the Japanese have not limited themselves with their yellow paint brush. The color can be seen on the seats, door panels and on the dashboard. Fortunately, you can also choose a combination of gray and black, if you prefer. Also note that the Juke’s interior now has no leather. All accents are made of PVC faux leather on the seats and Alcantara on the dashboard.

A completely redesigned dashboard. It now has a boomerang shape, with new air vents and a wireless smartphone charger just below the climate control controls.

Two screens

As you might have guessed, the dashboard has been redesigned mainly to accommodate the new standard infotainment system. It’s straight from the latest Qashqai and X-Trail and features a large 12.3-inch touchscreen, supported by a series of buttons that act as shortcuts. It only takes a few minutes to master the system. Plus, you get Apple CarPlay and Android Auto as standard!

The instruments are now also digitalized, with a 7-inch screen behind the steering wheel as standard, or up to 12.3 inches from the level of the second instrument. And that’s … everything in terms of novelty! Even if you don’t count the safety equipment required by the European Union. The Juke 2024 also has an audio warning when you exceed the acceptable speed limit, lane assist and driver alert warning. Fortunately, you can also turn everything off via the menu on the instrument panel.

Still compact

Since this is a minor facelift, you shouldn’t expect the Juke to be a very practical family car. Nissan’s small crossovers are still aimed at young city dwellers … without children! Just to say that it is still quite tight in the back seat, while the trunk volume has remained unchanged at 422 liters (354 liters for the hybrid). That’s better than the first generation, but the charging rate is still too high to be useful.

Hybrid gasoline

We will reveal a secret: we believe this facelift will arrive at the expected time, but it is only there because Europe has strengthened its safety rules. Nissan didn’t want to change anything under the hood. On the petrol you still get the small 1 liter cylinder, which still develops 114 hp and 180 Nm of torque thanks to the turbo. The petrol engine is mated to a six-speed manual gearbox as standard, but you can also get a dual-clutch automatic transmission with 7 gears.

Another engine option is a hybrid. According to Nissan, this is the best-selling version. The powertrain is taken directly from the Renault shelves and has a 1.6 liter petrol engine that develops 94 hp and 148 Nm of torque. That is not much, but it is supported by an electric motor of 49 hp and 205 Nm of torque, which is connected to a “multi-gear box” from Allantie, with a dog clutch and six gears. The combination produces a total of 143 hp, with an official average consumption of 4.9 l/100 km and CO2 emissions of 111 g/km according to the WLTP cycle.

It could be better

It is this hybrid motorization that we were able to test. As we’ve seen before, and like the Renault Clio, Mégane and Captur, among others, we’re still hungry for it. In fact, this hybrid motorization shines in the city, where it can rely on its electric motor for most of its time. If you need more power, the gasoline engine will come in. The problem is that it’s only given 4 gears out of 6. So you always have the feeling of being ‘between two gears’, when the speed is too low… or too high!

On a mixed course we can read an average of 6.9 l/100 km on the on-board computer. And honestly, Nissan itself makes excellent hybrids with its e-Power technology. But that aside, the Juke can still rely on an excellent chassis. It may be a small crossover, but it is not afraid of more or less bends. The front axle is precise and the body movements are perfectly controlled.

Nissan Juke (Hybrid) 2024 Price

Although this is an update that has an impact on the technology on board and the safety equipment – and the paint, of course! – Nissan has been kind enough not to touch the prices of the Juke. The cheapest Juke 1.0 DIG-T still costs 26,500 euros, and the automatic still requires an additional 2,000 euros. For the hybrid you must be the top of the range (N-Connecta) and transfer at least 33,000 euros. The new Juke N-Sport is available with the DIG-T petrol engine from 30,300 euros.

High judgment

This update has made the Juke even newer. Nissan’s smallest crossover is now better equipped, in terms of infotainment and active safety systems. Otherwise, her beautiful face, which remains her main selling point, remains unchanged! Except that now you can also find it in … yellow. Or have we already said that?
