PEUGEOT E-208 TEST PHASE 2 2024

PEUGEOT E-208 TEST PHASE 2 2024

MORE STYLE, MORE WATTS AND MORE KM!

The Peugeot E-208 Phase 2 benefits from the latest technical advances from the Stellantis group using a new 156 hp Nidec electric motor that offers a range of 410 km.

The fight with its eternal rival, the Renault Clio, continues. After the modified Clio 5 Phase 2, it is the Peugeot 208 2 that chooses a major mid-career change. Launched in 2019, the second generation 208 is getting a makeover and to say the least this is evident. But if the style is one thing, the technique is another and the E-208 2024 is full of new features and a new assembly of the motor battery, but also the modern infotainment system of the generation, which is not luxurious compared to the previous system.

E-208 that we see and love behind the wheel

The style that shows off its front face, most strikingly with the three claws and claws that shine in the daylight on each side of the shield, gives it a unique signature that we see for the first time. Offering new colors, including a “lime yellow” called Agueda Green, the new E-208 gets juice again in its appearance, but also under the hood as it now has a new Nidec electric motor with a power of 156 hp. This electric motor, manufactured at the Emotors factory in TrĂ©mery in the Moselle, is connected to a 51 kWh battery (48 kWh useful) also new because the 54 kWh battery used by the E-308, which uses the same engine, is not enough for the E-208 . Compared to the 136 hp E-208, the battery gets 1 kWh but it is efficient that the engine of 156 hp makes the difference with the advantage of autonomy of almost 50 km, bringing a distance of 410 km in the mixed cycle. In practice, the gain of 20 hp is only visible in Sport mode during acceleration, but that’s all because the torque remains the same at 136 hp, still in the list of the entry level. The road behavior remains pleasant and strong with good rear grip provided by the Michelin Premacy 4 tires that “hold” the car on the road despite the heavy weight of more than 1,455 kg empty that we still feel in certain turns or bumpy sequences. a more pronounced vertical road, a particular problem for electric vehicles whose high weight produces body movements. Another shortcoming, managing the brake pedal measurement is still weak. The heart of the “war” of the electric car is still the consumption, during the test in mixed use we noted 15.2 kWh/100 km, enough to travel for about 300 km before recharging.

The new 2024 E-208, presented in GT trim during our test, does not lack appeal. Its rich equipment, along with its classy presentation, contributes to a higher price than some direct competitors, including its German cousin the Opel Corsa-e which is virtually unequipped. But when choosing, especially when the budget exceeds 30,000 euros, we can be tempted to see what the market offers with all eyes and then turn to MG and its MG4 cheaper and more comfortable.
