Rivian R1T rerun covered in California

The Rivian R1T refresh was spotted driving in California a few days ago, and many have speculated that the car belongs to CEO RJ Scaringe.

After the R1T prototype was spotted testing in cold weather in Alaska in February, a Reddit user shared a photo on Friday of the modified car driving on San Francisco’s I-280. The R1T in the photo includes a camouflage wrap, and many users in the thread noted that it was Scaringe’s personal truck, with one person even saying they saw him standing outside the car earlier that day.

Some expect Rivian to launch the facelifted R1T and R1S cars sometime this year, although the automaker hasn’t released any official information about the redesign. The photo also shows the taillights neatly covered by the hood, suggesting that the company may debut a new design for the headlights and taillights.

Many have also speculated that the upcoming car could feature several design changes, including an updated heat pump, new camera setup and better battery performance. Some have also speculated that the refreshed R1T or R1S units could include a Tesla charging port, but little is known about the upcoming launch.

Rivian recently celebrated the production milestone of 100,000 units, after launching its upcoming R2 and R3 vehicles last month. The automaker has also temporarily closed its plant in Normal, Illinois, with new production equipment until the end of this month, expected by some to be tied to the upcoming refresh launch.

Last month, Tesla also opened its large Supercharger network for Rivian and Ford vehicles, before the charging network becomes available for other electric vehicle (EV) brands in the coming months.

Rivian aims to produce 57,000 cars this year, after producing a total of 57,232 cars in 2023, and to produce 50,122. The automaker also built and delivered 13,980 and 13,588 units in the first quarter, respectively, beating analysts’ estimates.
